Quatre and Jeanne-Marie watch a funny show called 'Bob's Burgers' and come up with an idea for a new club.
Quatre had been to the rec room before, but had never really decided to hang out there mostly because every time he was there people were playing video games which he had no experience with. This time as he peeked inside he saw no games being played, just a pretty girl flipping through the channels every other minute.
He had seen her around a little, but didn't know her name and it was time to change that. Quatre walked over so he could stand beside the couch with a smile. "Hello."
Jeanne-Marie had been frowning at the Tv, which wasn't offering up anything interesting yet. It was still a little bit of a novelty to be able to watch whatever she liked whenever she liked, so she shouldn't be ungrateful... but honestly. Hundreds of channels and nothing on!
She smiled up at the new boy though, the sweet-faced blond one she'd noticed a few times. "Hello. Will you join me? I can't find anything on!"
Quatre nodded eagerly and moved to sit next to her on the couch, turning to look at what she had landed on for the moment. He frowned, never really understanding why the U.S was so interested in reality shows, and turned back to the girl. "What are we watching? Oh, my name is Quatre, by the way."
He held out a gloved hand to her.
She admired it, thinking it a fashion quirk, and then shook. "Jeanne-Marie. And I'm not watching anything. I'm not used to having so many channels. I think I'm spoiled for choice. If you see something good, let me know and I'll stop flipping?"
"Jeanne-Marie." He repeated to himself and took back his hand when she let go. "That's a very pretty name and I'm afraid I am in the same boat as you. I never really watched much TV, my father kept me very busy."
But he could understand the allure, sitting back and letting other's stories entertain you. Like reading, but more visual.
"Oh? What does your father do?" She flipped absently now, more interested in the new boy than the tv. Talk shows. Ghost shows. Nature shows...
"Erm..." That was a tricky question. Winner Corporations hand their hand in almost everything, except weapons even when the stock owners wished they did. "He runs a company, kind of the stereotypical businessman...if businessmen meditated and only drank tea."
Quatre frowned, suddenly hit with a wave of home sickness when he remembered the smell of tea leaves that always clinched to his father's clothes. "What about your father?"
"I never met him," Jeanne-Marie said with a soft smile she hoped would keep him from feeling awkward. "My parents died when I was a baby, still. It's all right--I don't remember them so I suppose I can't miss them, yes?"
Quatre gave a small sad smile of his own. "I'm sorry and this might sound awful, but I know what you mean. My mother died after having me, so I don't really know much about her other than my father and family loved her."
Well, this wasn't exactly how he wanted to start their friendship.
Jeanne-Marie smiled knowingly. "Thank you for saying that. And--don't worry. You'd be surprised how many conversations at this school begin with sad stories. If that's what you're thinking."
Quatre gave a small relieved smile and nodded. "Unfortunately, no one can truly escape sadness, but we can always try to grow from it, but let's talk of happier things. How are you liking the school?"
"I love it," she replied without hesitation. "It's the first place I've ever had real freedom--and made truly good friends. What are your impressions?"
"I'm enjoying it so far." He grinned and kicked the back of his feet against the couch. "It's my first time ever being in an actual school, so I'm having a fun time figuring everything out and living with my classmates. Have you met Trowa Barton? Tall and kind of thing? He's my roommate. He's pretty great."
"I haven't met him! What an interesting name though--Trowa. I wonder where he's from," Jeanne-Marie wondered. "I'm glad you got a roommate you like. That makes everything so much easier. Mine is wonderful too, Shen."
"I have met Shen." Quatre replied excitedly. "She is a very nice girl. Her wings are truly amazing I have to admit."
"Aren't they? I love to watch her fly--and to fly with her--but they're beautiful even at rest." Jeanne-Marie sighed happily thinking of it. She kept gushing after that: "And she is nice. The nicest! I've never had a friend like her before."
Quatre couldn't help the large grin on his face as the girl talked excitedly about Shen. "Well, I'm glad you have one now. I met her while she was flying..."
He paused for a minute going over what she had said and looked at Jeanne-Marie in amazement. "You can fly as well?"
"Mmm-hmm." Jeanne-Marie was flipping through channels again. She stopped on some cartoon that looked cute. There was a little girl wearing a bunny ear hat! "Speed, flight, and light. What about you?"
Quatre turned to see what she had settled on channel wise before turning back to her. "That is quite a collection of abilities. I can only feel emotions through touch."
He held up a gloved hand.
"Only?" Jeanne-Marie clapped her hands together. "But, that must be wonderful! You can understand where someone is coming from instantly, no?"
"In a way, I guess." Quatre replied, smiling a little at how excited she seemed about his ability. "It's more like I can sense that they might be sad about something along with anger or stuff like that. I would still have to ask why they are feeling that."
He glanced at the TV when a girl with thick glasses groaned.
Jeanne-Marie smiled at the girl on TV. Who was apparently called Tina. She felt just like that groan sometimes, too. This was cute! "Even that could be so helpful to people. Sometimes I think we hardly know what we're feeling--but it's a step to learning why."
"That...was very insightful." Quatre commented, smiling at what she said while he watched the show with her. The man was cooking a burger and now he wanted one. "Do you like burgers? I don't think I've ever really had a legitimate burger."
"I love them," Jeanne-Marie said. She was still smiling at the idea of her being insightful. Someday, she hoped to be. "We should go get some, sometime!"
And now she was interested in what was happening on screen. There was some kind of... conflict resolution club? And the students were acting deliberately badly in a skit about it. Their teacher told them to use their 'abs'.. Jeanne-Marie giggled.
Quatre watched what was happening in the screen and he couldn't help but laugh a little at what was going on. This show was pretty silly, but it was funny. "Are there real clubs like that in school or is that just for the show?"
A conflict resolution club...that sounded like something that might help people in the school.
"I've heard of them in other shows and on the internet," Jeanne-Marie admitted. "Though they're not usually this silly. With a school full of teens, something like that could actually be useful!"
Quatre thought of all the students who had been through something, unfortunately a lot came to mind, and he nodded at what Jeanne-Marie had said absent-minded until the idea hit him. "Why....why don't we make one?"
He had absolutely no idea how one went about doing that, but it couldn't be harder than helping over see a large company merger right?
"Do you think we could?" Jeanne-Marie asked, eyes wide. "I mean. Of course we could. Maybe the Professor could help us find training. He's a counselor, and he knows counselors. And they--" she blurted out a laugh at the sweater-vested Mr. Frond. "They must know more than him!"
Quatre couldn't help but chuckle a little at her laugh for the show, the sound of it bubbly and a little infectious. The man on the show had really no idea what he was doing and seemed to not know how to interact with children either. "I'm afraid to say, but I believe I know more than him. He gets frustrated far too easily."
“Sometimes so do I, but he gives me hope.” This show was too cute, though. She’d have to watch it more. “There is a lot of—ah, interpersonal drama at the school, though.” Including her own... “But it seems inevitable with all of us living so close together. I’m sure if we ask the Professor he could help us train for it.”
"We should. I'm sure he'd see the need for it." Quatre agreed as he watched the show more, the small girl with the pink bunny ears was quite crafty and reminded him of his youngest cousin. It made him smile. "What is this show called?"
Jeanne-Marie hit the 'guide' button and laughed. "Bob's Burgers. How cute! I wonder if there are more on demand..."
"I wouldn't be opposed to watching more." Quatre chimed in, grinning at the idea that he had bonded with someone over television. "I think I like the mother, she seems very nice and tries hard."
"I like the dad's voice!" Jeanne-Marie laughed as the dad groaned at someone again. Too cute! "Should we go talk to Xavier together? Tonight maybe?"
Quatre nodded, liking how ready Jeanne-Marie was to do the idea they had just thought up only a few minutes ago. "Sure, I believe I'm free tonight. We could make a plan to show him, let him know that we are serious about this."
"Yay!" Jeanne-Marie laughed at the TV again. "But first, more Bob's Burgers?"
"Oh, of course." Quatre answered with a grin and turned back to watch TV with his new friend.
