Tamara tells Shen about her date with Shinobi, and Shen's response is less than supportive. Teenage drama! Misunderstandings aplenty! Woot?
Tamara was still pretty much glowing that evening. After spending the afternoon with Shinobi, having a very sexy little picnic, who could blame her? After a pretty shitty summer, it felt damn good to be flirting and making out and just feeling like herself again.
Still wearing her 'Good girls go to Heaven, Bad girls go Everywhere' haltertop, she carried her dinner tray into the cafeteria and spotted Shen and went to join her.
"Hey you," she said, putting down her tray and flipping the chair around to straddle so her wings were free. She beamed at Shen. "Ask me what I did today."
"Heeeey." Shen grinned at Tamara as she looked up from her bowl of crispy tofu and salad. It was the weekend, so she'd cooked herself instead of going for the cafeteria's vegan option. Given that her friend was glowing, she asked instead, "So who did you do today?" She fully expected the answer to be Tommy, all things considered.
"Ha-ha," Tamara replied, though it didn't kill her smile at all. Anyone else? Dead. Shen? No problem at all. "I went on a date! I mean, I think it was a date - he brought lunch, we ate, and then we made out. That's definitely a date, right?"
"Wow," Shen stated with a bright smile, absolutely delighted at the news. "I didn't know he had it in him! That definitely sounds like a date, yes."
Tamara's brow furrowed for a moment, then she realized what Shen was thinking. "Oh, it wasn't Tommy," she said with a laugh, because yeah, that really would be a surprise. She liked their FWB arrangement, but neither of them had shown any romantic initiative, and Tommy just didn't seem like the date type. "No, it was Shinobi."
Shen's eyebrows raised at the revelation, and the "Oh" that followed definitely sounded a little too flat. "You. And Shinobi."
"Yeah," Tamara replied, momentarily unaware of the change in Shen as she took a bite of her own salad. Then her smile faltered. "I mean, that's okay, isn't it?"
"It's... kinda weird," Shen admitted after a beat. Okay, really weird, but whatever. Kinda weird was close enough.
"Really?" Tamara raised an eyebrow at Shen, kind of surprised by that. "I mean, I knew you guys made out at the party, but I thought that was like, it."
"We had fun," Shen replied, frowning a little. "I thought we could have more fun at some point down the line." And Shinobi had sounded like he'd be up for it, too. She was still a little shocked that Tamara would have just gone and done that without bothering to check in with her.
Tamara frowned too. She hadn't realized Shen was that into him. "Well, it was all his idea, so I just assumed you guys weren't..." She didn't have a good way to end that sentence, so she just let it trail off. "And it was just one date, so like, it doesn't mean you guys can't hook up in the future, y'know? It's no big deal."
"It's not..." Shen shook her head. "We're not. It's just weird. I told you I'd made out with this guy, and you went on a date and stuff with him." For once, she didn't want the details on what that stuff was. It wasn't about Shinobi, it was more about her friendship with Tamara. "What if I'd gone for Tommy after you told me you were making out with him? Weird, right?" That didn't mean there was necessarily something more than wanting to have a good time between Tamara and Tommy. It would just be weird, and disrespectful and stuff.
"I mean, I guess? Sort of?" Tamara really didn't see it, and her head tipped to one side as she considered. "I mean, mostly I haven't seen you show any interest in Tommy, so it'd surprise me..." And it wasn't like Tamara hadn't been flirting with Shinobi.
"I don't flirt like you do," Shen pointed out, then shook her head. "No, that's not the point, anyway. It's just - weird."
"Pretty sure you're the one being weird right now," Tamara replied, not liking where this was going. Especially since Shen had started calling her out for flirting? What the hell?
"Because I don't go after the people you make out with?" Shen asked with raised eyebrows. This conversation felt like it was going nowhere fast.
"No," Tamara said slowly, because obviously she hadn't meant that, thanks. "Because this school is way too small to have a hands-off rule on every guy who kissed someone else first. And I didn't do it because you'd made out with him, ohmygod, I like him."
"Wow, okay." Shen grimaced. "Thanks for giving a shit about how I feel."
"That's not fair. I didn't think you'd have feelings about it!" Tamara crossed her arms around the back of her chair, wings adjusting uncomfortably behind her. Feeling petulant, she continued, "I mean, you guys made out, once."
"You're not giving a shit now," Shen pointed out with a glare, and stood up, wings drawn tight behind her back. She was so done with this conversation, and she grabbed her nearly empty bowl to go.
"Shen, what the hell?" Ugh, Tamara wasn't gonna yell their business for the whole room to hear, so she let her go. Seriously though, Shen was the last person Tamara expected to buy into boy drama. What had happened to all that free and independent woman making out with who she liked attitude now that Tamara wanted a piece of that? It wasn't like Shen had talked about having a crush on Shinobi or anything - they'd made out the night they met and not once since.
She took an angry bite of her salad. Shinobi had asked her out, it wasn't like she'd swooped in on him or anything. She definitely hadn't done anything heartless like steal a boyfriend. No way, Shen was definitley overreacting. Maybe she had feelings for Shinobi after all? Tamara hoped not, but even if she did, Shinobi wasn't a thing to be fought over or 'claimed'. Shen had expected Tamara to, what, ask to play with her toy? Gross.
But she'd have to try and clear the air eventually. Wow, what a buzz kill...

Date: 2017-10-03 07:00 pm (UTC)(Tommy would like to note that he's done long walks on the beach, fireworks,*and* winning teddy bears for girls at this school already this summer, and he is perfectly capable of being date material. If you're into that cornball stuff. Which he is totally isn't. At all.)
