Billy teaches Illyana to dance and provides some much needed support.
Billy was feeling pretty great after his third juice cocktail thing Kitty had introduced him to and he had also somehow managed to dance with her without looking like a complete fool.
So far, this whole high school party thing was pretty amazing. Billy grinned stupidly at absolutely nothing before he spotted a familar small blonde and he waved at her excitedly as he jogged over. "Yana! Hey!"
Yana turned towards whoever it was, calling her name, and grinned as she realized it was Billy and not, apparently, someone else who wanted to complain about her having brought Pyro to the party. "Hey. How's it going?" If she had to guess from his expression, it was going really, really well - and he'd either had more to drink than she had, or had an even lower alcohol tolerance. She was betting on both.
"It is going weeeeellllllll." He stopped in front of her and bounced a little on his toes feeling way too light for what was probably normal, but he was having fun. He beamed and reached over to give her hand a squeeze, then just holding it for no reason. "What are you doing? Kitty taught me to dance!"
Okay, yes, definitely drunk. Illyana grinned and swung his hand. "Awesome, she's a great dancer. Want to show me how, now?" Granted, she'd been out dancing once already, but he was funny as hell. Might as well go with it.
"You wanna dance with me?" Billy grinned, using the hand connected with her's to tug her close and lean his forehead against her own. "Well, aren't I just mister popular right now."
God, what was even coming out of his mouth? He didn't care. He probably had the courage to kiss a boy right now or even the courage to kiss a girl. He chuckled at that thought as he started to lead Yana to the dance floor. "I would love to show you, though I think you might already know.
"Hey, I could use the practice!" Illyana objected, laughing. "But sure, I'll dance with you. Pyro keeps insisting he doesn't dance." Which was a bummer, but she figured she'd talk him into it. Eventually.
"Who wouldn't want to dance with you?" He asked over his shoulder before turning around and tugging her closer by her hand. He placed her one hand on his shoulder and beamed at her, feeling so loose and goofy with her. "The guy has no idea what he's missing."
"It's okay, I'll show him later." She grinned at Billy, her eyebrows rising, and squeezed his shoulder. "So, this is like, formally dancing? What do I do with my other hand?" That, at least, was a legitimate question. Bouncing around she could do. Actually dancing, like on TV? Not so much.
Billy chuckled quietly, surprised he actually knew what so here from those stupid middle school dances and he picked up her other hand, holding it in his as his free hand went to her wait. "So, basically what we are doing here is a small step above the awkward prom shuffle. Mainly, cause I'm actually in your space and not trying to act like you might have cooties."
"Pretty sure I don't have cooties," she assured him. "Do we move, or just sway back and forth?" After all, he'd apparently been to dances, and had lessons from Kitty. He should know.
"Yeah, that's basically the gist of it." He laughed a little at a funny image that only he could see before shaking his head. "Unless you wanna try to seriously waltz, but let me tell you, I will step on your feet the entire time."
They swayed a little bit together and after a little bit he moved her out so she could spin back into his arm, which after a few drinks was a little more of a collide and then stupid giggling.
Billy wasn't the only one giggling as Yana let go of his hand and reached up to rub at her forehead. "Owww. Sorry, I told you I've never done this." She grinned and reached for his hand again. "So, how much have you had to drink?"
"Aww." He made a dramatic put upon face then shook his head. "That's not a fun question, but the answer would probably be...four....five? I want to say five. Five sounds like a good number. Fiiiiiiiiivvvvvve."
Since she was holding his hand again to tried to get back into position so they could weirdly away some more. "You don't seem nearly as gone as me. That's sad."
"Trying to stay mostly sober," she admitted, wrinkling her nose with distaste and pouting. "People aren't exactly thrilled with my having brought Pyro. I figure I should be capable of getting him out of here if anyone starts anything." She grinned and shrugged. "I'll make up for it later."
Billy frowned at the name, not quite sure who exactly that was or why the hell a parent would name their kid that, but hey parents were nuts. "Aw, why are people mad about that?"
"Because I maybe met him when we went on that mission and ran into the other mutants?" Illyana's smile tilted and she shrugged. "He was kinda on the other team. And, well, was the one who set the building on fire. Though to be fair, he did that before we got there. It's not like it was to get rid of us."
A lot of those words flew in and out of Billy's ears, not really knowing exactly what she was taking about except for the word mission.
Mission -> Tommy had been on a mission -> so had JP?? -> was the bad people there? -> Pyro was one of the bad people....probably...maybe.
Billy frowned, not liking that Yana was feeling less than happy, so he moved her hands around his neck and wrapped his arm around her wait to give her a tight hug while kind of dancing. "Well, fuck 'em."
"But I don't even like most of them," Illyana replied, managing not to grin for a few seconds before she gave in and laughed, burying her face in Billy's shoulder.
He laughed louder than he really should have at that and squeezed her tighter. "Okay! Don't fuck all of them, that would be really exhausting, but you know what I mean."
He grinned into her hair. "Don't be a smart ass."
"Oh come on, how could I pass that up?" Illyana tightened her arms around his neck and leaned into him. "But thanks. For not pointing out that I'm crazy and endangering the school and...yeah. All of that. I just...I really kinda like him?" She shrugged and pulled back enough to meet Billy's eyes. "I showed him Limbo. He was cool with it. After Tommy..." she let that trail off and shrugged, but smiled. It'd been more than she'd really hoped for, from anyone other than him or Kitty.
Billy let out a sympathetic noise, still not really connecting the dots that maybe Pyro wasn't a great guy to bring here, but Yana had liked him so how bad could he be? When she trailed off about Limbo, Billy frowned again and gave her a noisy kiss on her forehead.
"Don't be sad, Yannna. Is there anything I can do?"
"You're already doing it," she assured him, and smiled as she moved her arms down to give him a hug. Glee (or maybe it'd been Dance Academy?) was right. Every girl really should have a GBF.
