Vex and Illyana | Backdated Genosha

ax_mainVex gets an unexpected visit - and a new roommate.
Vex was sprawled on her bed poking through a textbook when Illyana appeared in the room. Vex took one look at her friends expression and sat up.
"Hey, are you okay?"
"Mostly." Feeling a little lightheaded (she really shouldn't have tried 'porting again when Kitty'd bailed, but it had seemed like the thing to do) Illyana came over and plopped down on the bed next to Vex. "Can I stay here tonight?"
Vex slid an arm around Illyana, giving her someone to lean against. "Of course."
"Thanks." Illyana snuggled in against Vex and sighed. "Did you see the news yet? About Genosha?"
"What news?" Vex had been holed up in her room all day, determined to get a head start on preparing for summer classes.
"You've heard of Genosha, right? That island that advertises itself as the perfect mutant vacation spot? They should be sued for false advertising." She wrinkled her nose. "Except it's kinda too late, because the Brotherhood are taking it over."
“Taking it over?” Vex’s arm slipped down as she leaned back. “Did they just... depose some people? What’s happening?”
"I don't know, I'm not there," Illyana pointed out. "They showed them on TV burning down the Parliament building. And Pyro did a number on their labs when they grabbed me, but that was a few days ago."
“Who grabbed you?” Vex wasn’t following.
"The Genoshan magistrates," Illyana explained. "Pyro and I decided to check out the beach there. Turns out their "open to mutants" policy has more to do with kidnapping and brainwashing than it does vacationing. Which I'm guessing is why the Brotherhood decided to take on the country, but I don't really know." She made a face. "I kinda got pissed off at him after he rescued me. I think we're done for good this time."
Oh. Okay. That was a lot of puzzle pieces. From the sound of it, this wasn't a smash and grab then, if people were being harmed on the island. Illyana was single now. But first, kidnapped by a dangerous government seemed higher priority maybe? "I'm sorry, darling. That is a whole lot to track. So is your team right currently fighting, or did this happen a few days ago? I guess what I'm trying to get at is, is anyone currently still in danger?"
"I think they're still fighting. They were reporting live from Genosha," Illyana replied distractedly. "Not really sure I care if the Genoshan magistrates are in danger, though. They kinda have it coming."
“I’m more concerned about your friends and anyone else that may have been taken like you were.” Vex gave her shoulder a squeeze. “I mean. I’m sure if it’s on the news the team here already saw.”
"They saw," Illyana confirmed, tilting her head back onto Vex's shoulder. "People are already freaking out. The Brotherhood will be okay, though." She frowned. "I think they may have done some recruiting from here, though - pretty sure I saw that guy without arms on one of the shots on TV. I wonder who else they got?"
“Hopefully enough that they’ll be okay,” Vex said softly. “I’m glad you’re safe.”
"I'm glad I am, too." She didn't sound as if she were quite sure of that, though.
“Do you need to check in with the infirmary?”
"Huh?" Illyana lifted her head and looked at Vex, confused, then shook her head. "No. I'm okay - the drugs are all worn off and stuff. I'm just really tired." And trying hard not to think about what she'd seen in Limbo, and what it meant. And about Pyro. And the possibility of Pietro or Nico or Eileen getting hurt in Genosha, without her there. Granted, she'd scryed and everyone had looked okay, but with Wanda there mucking things up, scrying didn't show everything.
“Okay,” Vex said softly. “Crash here.” She stroked Illyana’s hair.
"Are you sure you don't mind?" Granted, she wasn't altogether sure where else she could go - maybe Kitty's apartment in the city? But she didn't want to just barge in if Vex had other plans.
“You are always welcome here,” Vex assured her. “And I tend to keep indecent company outside of my room, so you shouldn’t have to worry about appearing in the middle of anything unexpected.”
Illyana laughed. "I'm too tired to appear anywhere else tonight," she admitted. Reluctantly, she got up and went over to rummage for a t-shirt in Vex's dresser, stripping off Gilmore's borrowed sweatshirt as she went. "I'm just gonna grab something to sleep in, ok? Sleeping in my bikini seems weird."
“Get comfortable. We should really keep spare stuff for you here.”
"Yeah, probably." Illyana stripped off her bikini and tugged a t-shirt over her head, deliberately facing away from Vex as she added, "Though I was thinking, maybe I'll just come back to the school. For a while, anyway."
“Yeah?” Vex liked the sound of that. Having Illyana closer would certainly set her heart at ease.
"Yeah. I mean, I know my timing's shitty, and I should really be with my team, but..." she shrugged and turned back to Vex. "I really don't want to deal with Pyro right now? And...well, I kinda miss everyone anyway. Or," she amended with a wave, "mostly everyone." She smiled, just a little. "Gotta admit, there's a few I'm really not looking forward to seeing."
“If you want to move in here I’ll help you study,” Vex both offered and maybe threatened considering Illyana’s love for academia.
"So, you're trying to talk me out of staying here?" Illyana teased. She smiled over at Vex and shrugged. "Isn't your roommate coming back from wherever she went?" Though she could stay until she got back, she guessed. It definitely beat rooming with someone she didn't know.
“I hope,” Vex said. “If she finds her mother, that may change things. We can always ask for one of the triples.”
Illyana smiled crookedly and shrugged. "We can figure it out later. I mean, I don't even know if they'll let me stay yet."
“I can’t imagine the professor will turn you away.” Vex presses a kiss against Illyana’s hair.
"Maybe not," Illyana replied doubtfully. She yawned and snuggled back in against Vex. "I vote for not asking until tomorrow, though. I'm too tired tonight. And he's probably busy watching the news anyway."
“As soon as things calm down. We’ll have to check and see how everything is tomorrow anyway.” Vex stroked her hair. “Do you want the spare bed or do you want company? Me casa su casa.”
Illyana considered it, then made a face. "I'd love the company, but I'm probably going to have nightmares. Better if I take the spare bed."
Vex kissed her cheek. “If you wake up and need someone climb in. I know how it goes.”
"Thanks." Illyana smiled and got to her feet. "I may just take you up on that."
