In which current events are discussed, and there is much giggling
It was late in the evening when a dizzy Kitty fell against Yana's side, arms wrapping around her in a happy hug. "Ohmygosh I'm so drunk."
"I see that," Illyana replied, laughing. She hugged Kitty back and helped her roommate catch her balance. "Having fun?"
Kitty managed to straighten up. "So much fun. What about you?"
"Oh, loooads." Illyana grinned. "So far, Jeanne-Marie questioned my sanity, I'm pretty sure Tamara shocked my date - literally - and someone," her eyebrows rose, though if anything she grinned more, "threatened to end him?"
"Ooh, right. That," Kitty laughed and slapped a hand over her mouth. "Oops."
Illyana laughed again and hugged her. "You're awesome. Have I told you that?" Okay, so maybe she was a little buzzed, too. At least she wasn't having trouble with standing.
"Oh good. You're not mad. I was a little worried you'd be mad because I don't have to do the battle fight thing for you like, ever - you can kick so many more butts than me," Kitty explained.
"Not mad," Illyana assured her. "Though I'd really rather you not kick his butt. I kinda like it the way it is." And the way it'd felt with her hands in his pockets. And the way the rest of him had felt pressed up against her. Mmmm...yeah, this was a good party.
"Hey look!" Kitty laughed. "You're fire and I'm ice!"
"Oh, you're right!" That was kinda cool, actually. Illyana grinned mischievously. "We should stick them together and see if there's steam."
Kitty had to hide her face to keep from grinning so much her face cramped up. "Oh, oh no. Nope. No, the only steam that's happening with Bobby tonight is me!"
"Oh, now this I need to hear. Just what do you have planned, hmm?" Illyana glanced down at the ground, determined it wasn't wet, muddy, or anything else she'd regret getting on her skirt, and tugged on Kitty's arm to get her to sit down.
Dropping down to sit next to her friend wasn't a hard decision. Kitty plopped happily and leaned against Illyana's shoulder. "We're always so careful with each other. I just want to...I want to touch all of him, you know?"
"Oh, I know." Illyana grinned. "So, what's stopping you?" Her forehead furrowed. "And why careful, anyway? I doubt he's breakable. Unless there's more to the whole ice thing than he's saying."
Kitty shook her head with a little grin. "No, it's just. I guess it's so new and we're not really sure what we're doing or where we're going and ugh, I just want to kiss that adorable face."
"Hold it, you guys haven't kissed yet? I thought I saw you earlier," Illyana remarked, surprised.
"Nooo, I mean yessss, we have. A lot. But I want to kiss it all the time," Kitty complained. "And I should be working. I have so many things to work on. All the things. If it weren't for Tommy helping me, I'd never get anything done." Which wasn't true. She had plenty of free time and ideas, but for some reason, the words just spilled out of her lips, and she knew once she said them that they were the wrong thing to say.
Illyana's eyebrows shot up and she pulled back. "Tommy? Seriously?"
Kitty winced, then put her hands out, as if trying to pull her friend back in. "No, I mean, yes, I mean before I knew about you and him and the stupid things he said," she rambled.
Oh. Illyana settled back and sighed. Well, at least it wasn't after. That was something "That sucked. I liked him," she admitted. "But at least I learned something and showed Pyro Limbo first."
Crisis averted, Kitty sighed and flopped back on her back, staring up at the stars and the clouds. "I want to see Limbo again. I only got a glimpse."
"You probably really don't. As tourist attractions go, it's pretty lame," Illyana observed, flopping back as well and reaching up to pillow her head with one arm. "But if you do, you can come along next time I take Billy." She grinned a little. "You can stand guard."
Kitty looked over. "You're taking Billy?"
"It wasn't my idea," Illyana said defensively. "He wanted to go. And I can't really teach him much here. His magic works better here than mine does." She sighed. "Don't worry. I'm not teaching him anything dark."
"I'm not worried," Kitty grinned, nudging her. "I think that's awesome! You and Billy are like, the sorcerers of Xavier's!"
Despite lingering reservations about teaching Billy anything, Illyana had to laugh at that. "Well, Xaviers obviously needed some. I mean, all the best mutant schools have them." She grinned. "Hopefully it'll be enough to keep the Professor from kicking me out."
"Why would he kick you out?" Kitty asked. "And I promise, I will try to keep my Hogwarts references to a minimum!"
"Pretty sure that's the general consensus over me bringing Pyro to the party." Illyana wrinkled her nose, then grinned. "Not sure it wouldn't be worth it, though. I've had the best time. So good I won't even point out everything that's wrong with Harry Potter."
"No!" Kitty gasped, and not because of the Hogwarts thing (although really, she just really wanted to believe Harry Potter was real, okay?) but because of that first part. She turned and threw her arms around her friend again. "I won't let him kick you out. You can't go."
"Okay, okay, I'm not going. You can be my character witness." Illyana hugged Kitty back, both touched and amused by her roommate's reaction.
"I will be all your witnesses. Every one. I mean. Except for the other witnesses who are clearly their own witness," Kitty informed her.
Illyana pondered this for a moment, trying to figure out if there was any way it actually made sense, then gave up and just giggled instead, burying her head in her friend's shoulder.
