Wanda and TJ set up cots - and clear the air.

The Genoshan Sports Arena hadn't been hit by any of the fighting, standing tall and undamaged in the midst of somewhat less untouched structures. Which was good, Wanda thought as she set up another cot they'd trucked over from what had been the Magistrates' barracks. Though it hadn't been their intent, there were a lot of people who were justifiably worried about whether or not their homes were structurally sound. If they were going to take over the country, they needed to do something about that.

Holy fuck, they were taking over a country.

The idea still made Wanda's head swim, even as it filled her with an joyous conviction that they'd actually done it. They'd founded a homeland for mutants, one where they wouldn't have to fear persecution. It had been the right thing to do, and they'd done it - and it was scary as fuck, because now they were responsible for the entire populace, mutant and human, and she'd had a hard time running herd on less than a dozen mutant teens. Still, her father was the one actually in charge, and he had them to help.

And strangely enough, she apparently had a not quite daughter who'd shown up to help, too. Wanda glanced over to where the blue furred girl was telling people where to place some more cots, her forehead furrowing. She still wasn't sure what was up with that. TJ didn't seem like the type to just tag along with Fatale because they were friends, and it was too much to hope that she'd decided the Brotherhood weren't the agents of evil. Maybe she'd come along to keep an eye on Tommy and Billy? That would make more sense. Or maybe...

Or maybe she should stop speculating like a moron and just ask. "So, why'd you come?" she asked as the younger girl headed her way.

"Butt needed kicking?" TJ offered, tail swinging behind her in a way people who knew her could have qualified as nervous. But Wanda didn't know her, not even close, and part of that blame lay at TJ's feet.

Wanda let out a snort of amusement. "You sound like Eileen. Here, give me a hand with this, huh?" she asked as she grabbed one end of another cot.

TJ stepped over to grab the other end, taking her cues from Wanda in terms of where she wanted them to take it. "So what happens now?" she asked. "I don't mean here, but like, for Genosha." Being an Exile had been easy. Get in, accomplish the mission, get out. They'd trusted the Timebroker that they were doing the right thing, and they hadn't stuck around for the hard part.

"Good question." Wanda made a face. "No easy answer. I mean, we're taking the country, that much is obvious. Mutants need somewhere where they'll be safe; that's what we've been trying for all along. But fuck if I know how you run a country." She shrugged and set the cot down, starting another row of them. "Fortunately, I just have to worry about relief efforts for now. Newbie management on a waaaaay larger scale I can hopefully handle."

TJ's eyebrows raised at Wanda's offhanded comment about taking the country. She'd been here for over a year, and in time, she'd accepted that the Brotherhood wasn't 'of Evil Mutants', here. But comments like that and the old doubts came rushing back in. What had happened to Wanda, that taking over a country seemed like the obvious option?

But TJ had rushed to conclusions once before, and she was trying hard not to do the same thing again. Cautiousness didn't come easily to her, but it filled her words, now, as she said, "That sounds like switching one authoritarian regime for another."

"Or maybe it's getting things rolling to give mutants an actual chance at self-determination," Wanda countered, raising her eyebrows. "Someone's going to have to get the ball rolling. Or do you think we should just hand it over to a bunch of brainwashed victims of the former regime and have them have to figure out how to get their country going while they're still putting themselves back together?"

TJ rolled her eyes, more notable for the shift of her head than anything else, given the fact that they were full yellow. "'I can see how 'we're taking the country' might sound like that, TJ, but I meant 'taking the country to a place where we can eventually have elections'.' 'Oh, right, Wanda, that makes a lot more sense! Thanks for clearing that up.'" So it wasn't very diplomatic of her either, but she was trying, at least, and this was her effort to defuse the situation, instead of getting all defensive too. Which she really wanted to do, but... she was trying.

"Or maybe you could try not assuming the worst from the start?" Wanda countered with equal sarcasm. "I mean, I realize it'd be a hell of a stretch for you, but y'know, it could be interesting. Something new and different."

TJ put the cot down beside another, then straightened up to level a very steady stare at Wanda. "You're the one making assumptions right now." Why was she even trying? And why was it getting to her so much? She'd just fought an entire battle with them. Helped them throw a government. What would it take? She turned to head back to the pile of cots that needed moving, before Wanda might see the sudden tears glistening in her eyes.

"Am I?" Wanda followed her over to the pile. "Seems to be a thing with you. But I admit," she mused, "it could just be when it's about me. Tommy seems to think you're okay." So did Billy, for that matter, but she had the feeling Billy thought the best of everyone by default.

"You've talked to me the whole of twice," TJ pointed out, doing her best to keep the irritation from her voice, although it was the only thing that allowed her to swallow back those tears. Shit, post-combat adrenaline crash could be such a bitch. "Hard to know what's a 'thing' with me." And now she just sounded tired. Amazing, TJ. She picked up the end of another cot.

"You made it pretty clear you didn't want to talk to me," Wanda pointed out, annoyed with herself that she was pretty sure TJ could hear the hurt in her voice. But fuck, it had been a long day, and she wasn't wiling to put forth the effort that hiding it better would take. "I figured the best thing I could do was leave you to it, if that was what you wanted." Granted, it wouldn't have been her first choice, but she wasn't about to force her not-quite-a-daughter into a relationship she obviously didn't want.

"I'm pretty sure we were both at fault for that, too," TJ pointed out. Way to miss the point, anyway, but whatever. If Wanda wasn't going to help, she set the cot back down to pick it up by the middle and drag it over on her own. If she was going to try and have an actual conversation from Wanda, probably better to wait until she wasn't crashing. But it kinda felt like her one opportunity.

"Hold on." Wanda hurried over to grab one end of the cot. "I don't know what you mean, though," she added on. "I actually went looking for you that day because I wanted to meet you."

"And bit my head off the moment I mentioned other Brotherhoods being shit, and walked out instead of, you know, telling me Magneto's war declaration on mankind had been mindcontrolled," TJ replied, a little of her usual fire seeping back into her tone. But it was a pale echo of her usual spirit. "It wasn't all me and my assumptions."

Wanda shrugged and offered a crooked, tired attempt at a smile. "I'm not going to argue that. Though to be fair? I figured you already knew about the mind control thing. I was used to the rumor mill moving a hell of a lot faster than it does there."

TJ grimaced. She wasn't sure how Wanda could have thought that, given what TJ had said, but whatever. It was in the past. And since Wanda had thought that, it made sense for her to assume that TJ was a grade A bitch. "Guess I wasn't the only one making assumptions, huh?"

"Guess not," Wanda conceded. She set her end of the cot down and looked at the girl. "So...we go where from here?" If anywhere, though TJ being here and actively talking to her made it seem as if she might actually want to go somewhere.

TJ straightened up and shrugged. "Back to the cots to go set up another one?" The easy answer, obviously, but her tail was swishing nervously behind her. "But maybe when we're not in the middle of a humanitarian crisis, we could go have a vodka red bull or two."

Wanda let out a snort of laughter. "Tommy got you hooked on that, too?" she guessed. "But sure, why not?"

TJ snorted. "I didn't wait until I landed in this world to start having fun."

"Hey, didn't realize it was the trendy cool interdimensional drink," Wanda retorted with a shrug. "I thought it was something Tommy came up with, trying to get a buzz."

"Drink of choice for clubbers everywhere," TJ assured Wanda with a quick smile. Including this world, she figured, since she'd never gotten weird looks for asking for one? But maybe that was because she was always getting weird looks for being, well, herself. As if she'd hide her fuzzy blue awesomeness.

Wanda grinned. "See, I mostly hit the clubs for the dance floor, and stick to water. Waaaay easier to get the DJs mixer to malfunction and put whatever songs I want to the top of the queue if I'm sober."

TJ grinned, even as she wondered if her mother had ever used her powers that way. "Where we go from here is definitely clubbing, some day," she stated, then led the way back towards the cots.

"I wonder if there are any decent clubs here," Wanda mused as she followed her. "If not, we're seriously going to have to fix that."

"Now that's a program I can totally get behind," TJ stated mock-seriously, nodding for emphasis. No, okay, she was kind of serious, because, "People will need an outlet. Dancing it out is always one of the better options."

Wanda's eyebrows rose and she grinned. "Want a summer job?"

TJ chuckled. "Unless Gilmore closes up shop, I've already got a year-long job. Or I might've asked what you had in mind."

"Well, I was thinking it wouldn't suck for someone to open up a club." Wanda grabbed an end of the next cot and jerked her chin towards the other. "Maybe weekends only? If you've got the time."

"You mean I could work in a club someone else opens, right?" TJ checked, tail swinging behind her in thoughtfulness.

Wanda shrugged. "If that's what you want. Or find an empty building and throw something together. Whichever." She smiled crookedly. "I'm guessing thing are going to be kind of disorganized for a while."

"I think opening up a club is more than a weekend gig - even squatter style," TJ stated with raised eyebrows, crouching to pick up the end of another cot. "But if someone does the ground work, I'd totally work there." Making drinks wasn't that hard, right? They only had to offer the uncomplicated ones, and she'd be good. "Or, you know, just dance there," she added with a grin.

"Also a definite option." Wanda grinned back, then shrugged. "I guess I'm trying to find out whether or not you'd be interested in hanging around here some, once school's out. Unless you're graduating?" Now that she thought of it, she wasn't entirely sure how old TJ was. Older than the twins seemed likely, but how much?

"Next year, normally," TJ answered with a pout. "Turns out world-hopping doesn't count for extra credits." As Wanda picked up the other end of the coat, they began the trek back to where it belonged. "I can come hang out some." Clarice would drop her off, she trusted. Maybe she'd even agree to come clubbing with TJ this summer.

"Cool." Wanda offered a smile. "You need a lift, give Fatale a yell. Or Yana, once she shows back up." If she showed back up. Wanda hoped she would, if for no other reason than that Pyro was going to be a real pain in the ass to live with if she didn't.

TJ figured she'd stick with Clarice, but Pam was definitely her next option, if needed. Illyana... Well, TJ had never really talked to her. "Where is she, anyway?"

"Fuck if I know." Wanda scowled and rolled her eyes. "She dropped Pyro off at the base three days ago, and hasn't been heard from since. She didn't even answer her phone when I called about the mission, and Fatale says she wasn't at the school. So either she screwed up her timing somewhere or she's sitting in Limbo sulking." She relented and let her lips tweak up, just a notch. "Given the mood Pyro's been in? I'm guessing the latter, personally. I swear those two fight more than they don't."

"I guess some couples are like that?" TJ offered. Couples that didn't last, she figured, mostly, but she wasn't going to say that and risk Wanda getting all defensive again, not when they were getting along.

"I guess. I can't say that I'm an expert," Wanda admitted. "Pietro and Lance bicker, but they mostly don't fight. And Alex and Fatale are," she paused to consider, then shook her head. "Really not an example of anything resembling normal. Clint and I didn't fight like that, though."

Clint and Wanda; that hadn't stopped being weird. Just like Kurt and... Aurora, or Jeanne-Marie, or both? Even before that complication. TJ could try all she wanted, but it was impossible to let go of some associations completely, especially when it came to people she loved as much as her parents.

People who loved each other as much as her parents.

Still, it didn't mean she had to let it show. "Speaking of, I gotta ask," she started, lips pursed in amusement. "What did he do to deserve that bowl of punch?"

"Saw that, huh?" Wanda grinned, because in retrospect, it was a hell of a lot funnier than it had been at the time. "He said something really stupid about me and Scott. Under the circumstances, it definitely called for a punch shower." Not the whole reason, but the rest really wasn't anyone's business but Clint's.

Wanda and Scott - now that was something TJ would be happy if she never had to consider. Then again, she hadn't sorted through anything to do with Scott. Everything that had happened with her Scott was still way too raw and painful, even a couple of years after the facts. "He's kind of a dumbass when it comes to women," she admitted, although the affection was obvious in her voice. Clint was good people. Just like the one back home. Which made her add, "Or men, I guess."

"Not gonna argue that." Still, there wasn't any anger or malice in her voice; now that it was over and done with, she really wasn't harboring any ill feelings. "I'm guessing that stays consistent through the multiverse, then? He mentioned once you'd said that I - your mom, I mean - and the Clint Barton there were teammates."

"Yeah, Avengers," TJ confirmed with a nod. "And, well, I don't know about across the multiverse, but Clint - the one here, I mean. I can see how he could grow into the guy who taught me how to aim, yeah." Personality-wise, anyway. The mutant thing and the hearing thing were obvious major differences.

Wanda made a face. "I'm not sure if it makes me feel better or not to know that the Right is fucking people up across realities. I mean, at least we're not the only universe where something like that happens? But in a way, I'd rather we were."

TJ put the cot down, shaking her head. "Oh, no. No, not that part. I'd never heard of them before this place. We did get the Friends of Humanity, though. No, I didn't mean his life story, just - who he is. Like I can see how Dad could've been like Kurt when he was younger, if I squint hard enough."

"Yeah, okay. I get what you mean." The details were different, but the people and the shit they had to deal with were the same Wanda offered a crooked smile. "Guessing I was a surprise, huh?"

"Jury's still out," TJ answered honestly, and shrugged. "Not like I know you yet."

"Good point. We'll have to take care of that." Wanda smiled. "I'll dig up the vodka if you bring the Red Bull."

TJ grinned at her, flashing fangs. "You're on."

All of this has happened before, and all of this will happen again. :D :D :D

Give her a year to finish high school and see what is happening with Genosha, and if it hasn't turned into a dictatorship, he's on.
