Yana does as she was asked, and waits until the next day, technically, to show up at Asteroid M again.
It was early - probably way too early, given the lack of noise - when Illyana appeared in Pyro's room. A quick check of her phone confirmed that it was "tomorrow", though, even if the designation was more technical than what Lance had intended.
Illyana didn't really care what he'd intended. She was still more than a little annoyed - she understood Pyro needing to be with his team, and that Lance hadn't wanted a lot of extra people there, but - well, she'd danced with them, hadn't she? Except apparently that didn't matter after missions that had gone wrong.
Sighing, she stripped off her shoes and jeans and crawled into Pyro's bed, wondering where he could be. But it was so early it pretty much still qualified as late, and despite her intentions to wait until he showed up, she ended up just falling asleep in a bed that smelled like him despite his not being there.
Eileen ended up kicking him out, of course. Pyro was still surprised she'd let him sleep in her bed at all. He stopped by the kitchen for a quick bowl of cereal, then headed back to his room to grab some new clothes and go take a shower. Maybe once he'd washed it all from his skin, he could feel like functioning more normally. Whatever normal was for him.
He never got to that point, however, because when he saw Mage in his bed, all he could do was crawl under his blankets and wrap his arms around her, hoping he wouldn't wake her up so he could just hold her a while, nothing else.
Having felt the shifting of the bed as someone settled in with her, Illyana opened her eyes, and smiled faintly when she saw it was in fact Pyro. "Hey," she said sleepily. "I waited until tomorrow."
"You're the best," he told her genuinely, just burrowing close and keeping his voice low.
Her face warmed and she wrapped her arm over him, urging him in against her. "I was worried," she admitted.
"'m all right," he mumbled against her shoulder, and gave her a soft kiss. "Eileen's all right. Q's probably gonna drive us all crazy while he recovers, but he's all right, too." Thank fuck he healed faster than normal.
She kissed him back and reached up to stroke her fingers through his hair. "You were all bruised and your eyes were doing that weird thing. Eileen was unconscious, and Pietro was bleeding all over the place. I get to be worried."
Pyro wasn't sure what 'that weird thing' was, but he figured he was happier not knowing. "Of course you get to be worried," he simply answered, eyes closing to focus on her touch in his hair. He was still all bruised up, of course, but it didn't really matter. "And I get to reassure you, now."
"I'm all in favor of that." Seeing as he seemed to like that, she kept stroking his hair slowly. "Where'd you sleep? Or didn't you?"
"With Eileen," Pyro answered, opening his eyes to check whether Mage seemed jealous. He just hoped she wasn't going to stop touching him. "Can't really believe she let me."
Illyana was silent for a moment while that sank in, her fingers still in Pyro's hair but not moving. With Eileen. Part of her bristled at the thought, but...right, okay, not all that much different than her sleeping with Billy, right? She couldn't exactly blame him - she wouldn't have wanted to be alone, either. She forced a faint smile. "You're lucky to be alive. Just think what she'd have done if you'd snored."
The fact that her hand had stilled was probably not a good sign, so Pyro wasn't sure if he should relax, even when she joked. Still, he huffed out a quiet laugh. "I'd rather not." He pulled her a little closer to him, and gave her another kiss. "Hey - thank you. For going, yesterday. It couldn't have been easy." He was pretty sure he wouldn't have done it, if their roles had been reversed.
"Yeah. I'd rather not do that again." Her eyes dropped and she made a face. Because yeah. She was "one of them" - until something happened, and she wasn't. She sighed and shrugged. This wasn't about her, right?
"You won't have to," he told her quietly. "I think he was just - freaking out."
"Maybe." She stroked her fingers down his neck and over his shoulder. "Or maybe...maybe I should've been there to begin with."
Pyro frowned, not sure what she meant, and unable to stop hoping. "You wanna join us?"
"Maybe?" She looked up, feeling awkward, because she wasn't altogether sure even now, and probably shouldn't have said anything until she was. "I don't want to not be there. Plus..." she made a face. "Everyone's freaking out. About how you guys shouldn't have done it, blah blah blah whatever. And...I don't get it. And I don't think I ever will."
"Because they're idiots, and you're not," Pyro stated, and kissed her. "Join us."
Illyana chewed at her lip, then nodded slowly. She'd promised Kitty - but she was pretty sure Kitty'd understand. She always did. And it wasn't like Billy and Tommy didn't pop in and out all the time anyway. "Okay."
"Okay?" he asked with an incredulous smile.
"Yeah, okay," Illyana let out a laugh at the expression on his face. "It's not like I'm going to lie to you about it."
That time, his kiss was less 'please' and more all around enthusiasm. "For real, though?"
She kissed him back with equal enthusiasm, then laughed and nodded. "Yes, for real. You need to help me go get my stuff later, though." Partially because she'd somehow accumulated a decent amount of stuff in the past 9 months, and partially so she wouldn't chicken out. Well, and partially because she wasn't in any hurry to be not with him again, after the day before.
"We gotta talk to Wanda and Lance," Pyro said immediately, because obviously, that was the first step. "Are you moving in here? This room, I mean? There's plenty of room for your stuff." Seriously, it wasn't like he had a lot. He didn't need a lot.
"Did you want me to? Because I'm good either way." She grinned impishly. "Keep in mind that my stuff includes a bunch of spell components and I'm probably going to want to paint a pentagram on the floor."
That did give him pause. "I'm..." not going to wake up possessed again one morning? Don't think about that. "I mean. What do you need the pentagram for?"
Illyana shrugged. "Spells?" Pentagrams were useful things, after all. She leaned in and brushed her lips over his. "I'll ask for my own, okay? I can always sleep in here anyway."
"But I like the thought of you living here," Pyro protested. He just. Wasn't sure about that pentagram, that was all.
Surprised, Illyana blinked - then smiled, her face warming. "So...what if I just use the room as a workshop kinda thing?" she offered. "Keep my clothes and everything in here? Because let's be real - there's no way I'm going to get any work done in here."
"That'd be cool," Pyro confirmed, smirking at the thought. He kissed her again, this time with more drive. Mage was fucking finally going to join them. It wasn't worth Eileen and Pietro getting injured, but he'd take the silver lining, all the same.
She kissed him back with enthusiasm, ignoring the sharp pang that accompanied the thought of leaving the school and her friends there. The ache was there, either way, and she needed to be here, to be a part of things rather than finding out about them afterwards. Besides, she reasoned, it wasn't like it would matter all that much. She could still take classes at the school, just like Eileen did, and see everyone then.
Pyro broke the kiss with a bite to her lower lip, then smirked again, an offer. "We can go talk to Wanda and Lance in a bit."
"And in the meantime?" Illyana grinned. "Sure you're up for it? Or do you want me to get rid of some of those bruises first?"
"That sounds like a challenge," Pyro pointed out, and kissed her again, pulling her against him before rolling her on top of him.
"Challenge, offer - your pick." Illyana kissed him again, then sat up straddling him and started to push his shirt up, eyebrows rising in inquiry.
Pyro winced a little as he raised his torso just enough for her to pull the shirt off, then dropped back on the bed. His entire left side was bruised, most of them having come out during the night. "I'm good." No reason he should be healed when Eileen and Pietro weren't. Besides, he could live with the ache as he reached for Mage and pulled her down into another kiss.
Her face blanched a little at the sight of the bruises, but she leaned down into the kiss at his urging. It was his choice, after all, and bruises never killed anyone. She'd just have to be careful.
It was early - probably way too early, given the lack of noise - when Illyana appeared in Pyro's room. A quick check of her phone confirmed that it was "tomorrow", though, even if the designation was more technical than what Lance had intended.
