Early into the New Year's Eve party, Kurt and Vex meet.
Vex was bouncing to the beat of the song currently playing while she went to snag a drink. She twisted the cap off of her bottle and turned, nearly bumping into Kurt. “Oops, sorry about that.” She stepped to the right. “After you.”
“No, please, ladies first,” Kurt replied, gesturing for the girl to go ahead of him.
“I’m in no hurry,” Vex demurred. She raised her drink and took a sip, tipping her head toward the table in a ‘after you’ gesture as she did so.
"Thank you." Kurt slipped past the girl to the table and swept up a cup with his tail. He passed it off to his hand as he turned back around and, seeing the girl was still there, offered a smile. "It is Vex, yes?"
Vex tried not to be obvious about eyeing Kurt’s tail, but that was fantastic. “Yes,” she agreed. “Kurt, right?”
Kurt extended his free hand to Vex. "The one and only," he joked. "Much to the world's disappointment."
She took his hand, giving a squeeze. It seemed rude to comment on his mutation, but her curiousity got the best of her. Her thumb stroked against his wrist before she released his hand. The blue fur was so soft. “I don’t know. Do you think the world could handle two of you? Being one of a pair, I warn that so much awesome in a tight space is a dangerous thing.”
"Dangerous? Probably. But worth the risk? Definitely," Kurt replied, grinning.
She laughed warmly. “I suppose life is more interesting with a little risk.”
"Always." Kurt gestured away from the press of the crowd and offered Vex his arm. "Enjoying the party?"
Her lips curved with a smile. “It’s a happy new year.” She took the offered arm. “Much better music than the last party I was at, and the company is rather stunning.”
"The mutant gene is generous when it comes to the view," Kurt agreed, his smile all flirty charm as he led them away from the crowded drink table. "Just when I think it cannot get better, I turn around and I am proven wrong. A point you have cemented admirably."
She squeezed his arm. “Well aren’t you darling.”
"Ach, I only call it as I see it." Kurt stopped walking once they'd reached clearer floor space. "How are you finding the school? Your brother must be relieved to have you here."
“I like it,” Vex said. “It’s a relief for us both to be here. He gets into too much trouble without me.”
Kurt made an amused sound of understanding. “I have a brother like that.” He flashed a cheeky smile. “Of course, he would say the same about me.”
“They are nuisances like that,” Vex said.
Kurt swallowed a sip of his drink. "They are, but he would be right."
Vex leaned against him. “Poor thing. Who’s keeping you out of trouble now?”
“Definitely not Bobby or Tommy. They are more like the little devils on my shoulder.” Kurt said it with dry, but undeniably fond tone. He loved those two idiots.
"So you're running wild then?"
Kurt grinned. ”Look out world.”
Vex smiled. "If you have any fun chaos in mind, keep a girl apprised."
“Of course,” Kurt promised, crossing his heart with his free hand. “And you will do the same for me? I can tell you ability to find fun chaos is unparalleled. I have a sense for these sort of things.”
“Clever boy.” Vex grinned. She took another swallow of her drink and then looked for some place to put it down. “Dance with me?”
Kurt downed his drink, then tossed the empty cup into the trash and offered his arm to Vex. “I would be honored.”
She grinned and let him lead her.
