Scott and Shen track down Tessa to talk X-plans.

"Library's a safe bet," Shen was saying after meeting up with Scott, in search of Tessa. "That or thinking very loudly at her, but we're as likely to annoy the other telepaths, so."

And whether it was the Professor, or Jean, she didn't want to bother them unless necessary. She pushed open the doors to the library, leading the way in and spotting Tessa in front of one of the computers.

"Remind me to take you to Vegas," Scott said dryly as he followed her into the room, heading towards the resident telepath and genius.

Seated at her usual terminal, Tessa did not give any immediate indication that she had noticed the pair's arrival--though the two undoubtedly were sufficiently familiar with her by then to realize she had. Outwardly, she appeared fixated on the code snaking it's way down the screen before her, fingers clicking out a busy staccato on the keyboard. When they reached her, however, she paused and looked up into their faces, offering a respectful nod of greeting. "Shen," she said. "Scott. It is agreeable to see you. How may I be of assistance?"

That assistance of some variety was required, she took for granted. It would have been rare for either one of them to seek her out this way while she was working with no greater objective than casual conversation. Both together? A statistical outlier so remote it was barely worth calculating. She did, anyway.

Instinct had Shen grab a chair to position herself on the same level as Tessa. "We were talking about X-stuff. And Scott had some ideas about how to organize the training..."

"Just thoughts, really." He demurred, not out of a sense of humility but more just a fear of overselling himself. "There's too many of us to all train at once, but we need to be familiar with everyone. Not just the people we would naturally be drawn to. So I thought maybe rotating squads."

"A wise contingency," Tessa nodded. "And you wished to solicit my input?"

"We were wondering, if that's what we all decide to go with," Shen specified, because that mattered, "whether you'd be up for helping setting up the rotation and stuff?"

"Though I'd also appreciate your input." He assumed Shen would too, but he couldn't exactly speak for her. He did value Tessa's input, though. She saw things in a way few people did.

Smiling, Tessa pushed away from the computer and folded her hands in her lap as she crossed her legs. The expression lasted a few moments only, but was plainly there. "Of course. I am pleased to provide advice, as you wish. I will also be able to suggest a schedule, should that be the route you elect to take. I already have a reasonably precise idea of your resources in terms of personnel assets."

Shen did nothing to hold back her smile when Tessa accepted. "Awesome!" Seriously. Tessa would be the best at this stuff. "So what do you think? About rotating teams for training."

"It is, as I said, the wisest course of action," she replied. "Your teammates will need to know how to work in coordinated fashion with a wide assortment of vastly different attributes and strengths; emphasis should, I think, initially be on mixed squads with a variety of talents capable of acting in a general-purpose capacity. However, over time, we might also consider grouping more complementary abilities in targeted training, for those occasions when a more specialized approach might be warranted."

The. Best! Shen turned a happy smile on Scott.

Though his expression was far more muted, he was also clearly pleased. "That's a good idea." He made a mental note. "And thanks, for...y'know. All this."

"You are welcome," said Tessa with another slight inclination of her head. "I will have the first month's training scheduled in time for your meeting. We will extrapolate an expanded one based on those results."

"Is that a good idea?" Shen asked, eyebrows raising. "I mean, we don't even know everyone who'll be coming, probably. And I don't want to make it sound like we've already decided stuff." Because they hadn't.

Scott tapped his chin with one thumb as he thought. "I think it depends on how you want to run this," he finally said. "You could come in and say, 'this is what we think is a good idea,' and give them the opportunity to disagree, in which case doing it in advance isn't a bad idea unless you think there's going to be widespread objection. Or you could just throw it out there as food for thought, in which case I'd hate to waste Tessa's time."

"It is no imposition," the cyberpath spoke up. "Such preparation is of demonstrable benefit to us all; if another option is preferred, the time will still have been well-spent. Perhaps a compromise, then? I will prepare the first month's training schedule. I will also have one week's proposed training drafted separately. Depending upon the receptiveness of the group, you can present one or the other, either as an example or suggestion for further discussion, or evidence you have made concrete plans for the immediate future."

"That sounds great," Shen agreed with a nod. "Thanks for doing all this, Tessa."

Scott nodded too. "Yeah, thanks."

"Your gratitude is appreciated, but by no means required; I can do at least this much, certainly." She turned back towards her terminal. "We share the same interest. I will assist in whatever capacity I am able."

"Thanks mean way more when they're not required," Shen answered with a smile, pushing up to her feet.

"Appreciate it anyway," Scott said. He gestured to Shen in an 'after you' fashion.

"Please alert me, if you should require anything further. I am not usually difficult to locate," Tessa said by way of farewell. As soon as she'd finished speaking, the sound of tapping keys filled the library once again with its quick, irregular rhythm.
