On the way to Mass, JM finds out someone wasn't very nice to Kurt. Kurt is touched, JM is displeased.

Jeanne-Marie waited on Kurt in her usual spot in the foyer. The days were getting slightly chilly, now, so she wore a new sweater with leggings under her skirt, plus a pair of boots she'd been dying for in the shop. She'd never had boots before, not fashionable ones like these. She couldn't wait to wear them out--and church was just the place. Dressing up for church had always been her favorite time. She loved having someone to go with, too.

Not far from where Jeanne-Marie stood, there was a sound of imploding air and a swirling flash of blue-black smoke. It cleared to reveal Kurt, dressed in his own Sunday finest. He smiled when he spotted Jeanne-Marie and waved to her. “Hallo!” he greeted to her as he walked over. “You look stunning. God’s angels will weep with jealousy.”

She did a little spin to show off, kicking up one heel of her boots, then pointing the toe out, since those were her favorite part of the ensemble. "And you, mon cher!" It was too bad the image inducer would cover up his finer qualities, but then, there would come a time. Just not today. "Shall we?”

Kurt grinned and offered Jeanne-Marie his arm. “We shall.”

"We never did talk about the party," Jeanne-Marie pointed out.. "Except when we were there. Did you end up having a fun night? You looked like you were having fun!”

Kurt walked arm-in-arm with Jeanne-Marie to the door. “Too much fun, maybe. I woke up with a headache.” He held up a finger. “Word of caution: Do not teleport when hungover.”

Unhooking his arm from Jeanne-Marie’s, Kurt opened the door for her. “Did you have a fun night?”

"Mmm, and I'm tempted to use some of those tactics we discussed with the Father today, if I confess." She smirked

Kurt laughed. “Should we text Tessa now, then? She will need time to set-up the cameras.”

"Oh, we forgot!" She laughed with him, that wicked flash still in her eyes, and took his arm again.. "I don't want to do confession today. I have too much--and I feel like that headache really was penance.

"But it was worth it. So much fun. And so many friends!”

“It was! For my first American party, I would say it was a rounding success! I had a great time!” Kurt enthused warmly. “Especially, as I have taken a page out of your book of wisdom, and I am avoiding people who are not-so-friendly.” In the past, he would have kept trying to get the person to warm up to him, but, Jeanne-Marie had been right, avoidance was the better option.

"Oh no, who was awful to you?" Jeanne-Marie frowned and squeezed his arm. "I can't imagine how anyone could be.”

Kurt waved a hand, trying to downplay it. “Inu-yasha. We met and it did not go well.”

Jeanne-Marie's frown deepened. "What did he do? He's always causing trouble with people…"

Kurt waved a hand again as they followed the path to the front gate. “He accused me of lying and told me I smelled.” As he said it, he realized he felt uncomfortable talking about it. Embarrassed, almost. “And he asked me how the hell I survived looking like this.”

Jeanne-Marie froze. "He asked you what?"

Yes, Inu-Yasha was hardly the king of social graces. But there was no reason to say such a thing but cruelty--no reason at all, no kind of curiosity that required that.

Her face turned pink with anger.

“I would really rather not say it again.” It had been uncomfortable enough the first time. Kurt probably shouldn’t have mentioned it to begin with. “He was trying to rile me up, I think. I was too curious, asked too many questions, and I think it made him uncomfortable.”

Jeanne-Marie's eyes flashed with anger. "So he was cruel. It's one thing to be blunt out of ignorance--another entirely to be willfully mean. What a ridiculous and hateful thing to say. Oh, just wait til I see him again…"

Kurt was taken aback and a little touched by Jeanne-Marie’s anger. It left him unsure what to say. He’d known people here would support him, but her vehemence surprised him.. She sounded like his everyone from his troupe. “It is alright. I told him off and I have stayed away from him since.”

“I will too if he doesn’t respond to me appropriately,” she said, chin up, eyes still bright with irritation. “And then to you.

“I know the chances are slim, but, well. You know my policy.”

“It is a good policy,” Kurt said with a chuckle. They were nearing the front gate now, so he pressed a button on his wristwatch-like Image Inducer, turning it on. The hologram flickered into place and in place of Kurt’s fuzzy, blue self was someone who looked passably like everyone else.

Kurt patted Jeanne-Marie’s hand. “But, do not feel you need to end a friendship on my account.”

She took his hand in hers firmly. "As if I'd want a friend like that.”

Danke,” Kurt said, grateful. “You are a good friend.”

"To those who deserve it." She stuck out her chin, but then cracked a smile and shot Kurt a look. "I am disappointed in him, but, well. I don't know why. I just want everyone to be nice, and it's so naive, I know. Especially with everything I've seen.”

Kurt shook his head as he opened the gate for them both. “No, it is not naive at all. I feel the same way. I did not expect it here of all places. If I am being honest, that is maybe what stung the most about it. This place is supposed to be different.”

“Yes—I could see that completely. Who cares what he thinks? But to experience that attitude here.....” she shook her head as she passed through the gate. “We’re of the same mind yet again, my dear.”

“Ah, well,” Kurt said as he closed the gate behind them and offered Jeanne-Marie his arm again. “He is not the first, nor will he be the last. I know the way I look scares people. I am going to try to not let it bother me.”

"If it helps, I think you're the most handsome boy at the school," Jeanne-Marie said with a smile.

Kurt kissed Jeanne-Marie’s cheek. “You have unparalleled taste.”

She laughed and flushed pleasantly. "And you've always been the most charming." She tried to calm herself a little, but her smile wouldn't be tamed.

“You make it effortless to be,” Kurt told Jeanne-Marie and if it was to get her to smile like that more then who could blame him?

"That is my goal," she said, smile going a touch smug. She had a wicked thought that they should skip mass so they could carry on flirting. She shook it off and continued. "Let's stay in town after mass and have lunch?" There, good compromise.

“I would love to.” Kurt glanced at his watch-like Image Inducer just to assure himself there would be enough time, then smiled at Jeanne-Marie. “That would be wonderful. Any thoughts on where you would like to go?”

“Anywhere with you, my friend,” she said.

Kurt grinned. “Then our options are endless.”

Darlings! <3

And I feel a little bit bad, because Inu wasn't trying to be cruel! Rude and blunt, sure, but not cruel. >.> It was more about how awful people are than actually about Kurt, I swear!
