Shen and Warren talk coming out, drink tequila, air dance, and discuss various relationships... while drunk. As friends do.

Shen! Why hadn't he talked to Shen yet tonight? There she was, though, just at the drinks table, so Warren beelined it for her. "Shen! What are you drinking and can I have one?"

He might be a little tipsy. Or a lot.

"Oh my god hi where have you been all day!" Shen beamed at him and threw her arms around his neck for a well-deserved hug. "It's a great thing you did. So many kudos."

Warren squeezed her to his chest--he was actually wearing clothes for this party, because it'd be weird not to when it was chilly as fuck. Not that he'd have hesitated to hug Shen half naked. he'd done it enough times. Man, she was small. Not as small as Tamara, but small. Should he not bring up Tamara? What had even gone on there?

Right, anyhow! "Thanks! Man, I was so nervous this morning. Seriously it was like. Palpitations, man. Felt like I'd run fifty miles."

"I bet," Shen agreed, and pecked his cheek with genuine affection before releasing him. She was dressed in a sleeveless tunic and a pair of leggings, herself. No reason to put on anything warmer just to conform, here - and she was proud of the muscle definition she could show by now, so putting her arms on display was the way to go. "Seriously. How are you doing now? Come back down yet? Or are we drinking it all away? Here." She turned to pour him the same thing she'd just poured herself, as requested - that was, a tequila sunrise. It was the only cocktail she knew how to make, if you could even call it a cocktail.

"Drinking it all away, for sure," Warren said with a laugh that was genuinely carefree. That's what the booze was for. Obviously. "Was that tequila? Tequila is awesome." He took a sip. "Niiiiiiice."

"It's the fanciest drink I know how to make," Shen told him with a grin, then took a drink of her own. "But we're dancing, after this."

"We are so dancing," Warren agreed. "So, not to make this all about me, but I'm gonna make this all about me." Because otherwise I'm gonna ask what happened with you and Shinobi and that would be bad. "Was it okay? Did I come off like an asshole who thinks everything--including his teenage love affairs--is super important to the world?" Because sometimes Warren felt like that. Like, genuinely.

Okay he was like that. But he didn't want it preserved for posterity, and Shen would tell him straight up.

"Wellllll, I'm totally biased," Shen warned him. Because she'd grown to like him way more than she ever thought she would a ridiculously rich white boy. She actually counted him as a friend, so she should really upgrade that 'like' to 'love'. Hmm. She'd think about that when she wasn't half drunk already. "But you just came off like a guy who thinks we need more positive role models out there. Which, we do, so. All the kudos, I meant it.

"But I'll go over it again once the surprise has worn off, if you want a more objective look. You could've given a girl a head's up!"

Warren was smiling at her dopily, the light of appreciation in his eyes. That meant a lot, coming from Shen. Not that any of his other friends would bullshit him, but when he thought of Shen... she was just, so willing to cut through bullshit, so good at it, so sharp and clear. Man, she was so awesome. “I’m sorry, I totally could’ve. I was just—-super nervous and distracted, and last weekend Simon, JP, and I went to Aspen to kinda get away from it all.”

Shen frowned curiously, hesitated, then asked, "Is that a thing? You and JP and Simon?" She was asking because, well. He talked about him a lot. And a weekend getaway in Aspen (in Aspen, seriously) didn't sound like something for which you took a third wheel along, not unless you wanted to be cruel to them.

“Heh, yeah.” Warren’s feathers ruffled slightly and he rubbed at the back of his neck. “It’s been going on since the back-to-school party, honestly, but we just made everything official this weekend. I have two boyfriends, who are each others’ boyfriends. Crazy cool, right?”

"Well, they're both super hot, but that's true of like, 100% of our student population, isn't it," Shen remarked, grinning. But then her grin softened into a smile. "It's totally cool, yeah. Pretty amazing if the three of you can make it work." She tilted her head to the side, not entirely un-bird-like in her curiosity. "Any more huge life decisions you're holding out on, or is that it?"

"That's it!" Warren said happily. "I mean, it's gonna get complicated sometimes, for sure. But so far it just feels--really normal. Exciting but not weird.

"Oh!" He suddenly remembered. "Actually there is one more thing. I was gonna bring it up at the next activism club thing. I do actually mean to come out as a mutant--not this second, but eventually, and I want your opinion on--things. You know." He gestured vaguely with his free hand. "The stuff."

"The stuff," Shen echoed sagely, trying to hold her smile back, and mostly failing. "We can talk about the stuff. When we're not drunk." The stuff was way too complex an issue to deal with in this state. "Totally."

"Exactly." Warren made an only-partially-ironic finger gun at her. "I've had enough stuff today. I mean, not enough of this stuff." He lifted his drink. "But that stuff. The logistics of being Warren stuff."

Shen had to laugh at that. "I can't believe you actually just said that."

Warren winced. "Oh man, I did, didn't I? Please shut me up. You wanna dance? We could air dance!"

Shen looked at what was left of her glass, looked back at Warren, then shrugged and knocked back the last of her tequila. Then she grinned at him. "Let's dance!"

Warren downed his tequila too--he'd ask her for another after the dance--and pointed upwards. "There?"

"Where else," Shen confirmed with a glint in her eyes. And then she jumped into the air, winds spreading once she cleared the students.

An aerial spectacular of a dance later, they both touched down, Warren flushed and laughing. He stretched his wings up and out and then pulled them in tightly again. "That was just the thing! How about another tequila... thing, now?"

"You're the best dance partner," Shen beamed up at him, then directed her happy look at the drinks table. "Yes! Sunrise. Tequila sunrise." She grabbed two new glasses and started pouring. "For the color effect." Tequila, OJ, grenadine. Ta-daaa.

"We are the best dance partner. Wait. Something like that." Warren accepted his glass and held it up to admire it. "Maaaan that's beautiful. Just like you.

"Hey, speaking of..." Oh wait. Maybe he shouldn't bring it up? It was a party, after all... "Uh. I was gonna ask about the whole... thing with you and Tamara being weird. And if it had to do with Shinobi. Who did mention you two hooked up, by the way, but not in a creepy trophy sort of way, he was just kinda sad--no, not sad, I mean he was a little disappointed you were avoiding him. After."

He what? Shen frowned in obvious outrage and confusion, too drunk to even try and control her facial expressions. "He's been making out with my - friend." Former BFF? Ugh. "What did he expect?" And it wasn't like she'd avoided him for long! Just while she and Tam figured stuff out. Not that they really had, apparently, since it just felt like they were drifting apart and ugh, why were they talking about this?

"Okay, so that is the issue. I wasn't sure if you guys had some kind of, like, understanding or..." Warren cleared his throat. "That explains a lot."

"Should I have told you about it?" Shen asked with a wince, in an uncharacteristic moment of self-doubt. "I didn't wanna put you in the middle of that stupid drama."

"No, no, no." Warren held up his free hand in surrender, wings shivering at the very thought. "I love that you didn't. I just--it's been a while and things still feel kinda... you guys used to hang out and stuff. And I haven't heard that you and Shinobi are--uh. You know."

"War, I love that you guys are managing the threeway thing, but that is not the way for us," Shen replied with raised eyebrows. Then she groaned. "I feel so backward for feeling this way now. It's not even - it just kinda feels like she doesn't give a shit how I feel. And, I mean, Shinobi was fun, and he was the one with - when I told you about the wings, right?" Don't get distracted thinking back on that, especially when you're drunk, Shen. Still, her wings bristled from the memory - in a very good way - before she managed to focus, frowning again. "But it's not like there's feelings involved. She can have him, whatever." She sounded horrible, even to herself.

And suddenly, through the haze of his sympathetic nodding and her words, Warren experienced a moment of Tequila Clarity. "Oh shit. She didn't ask." Of course not. Because Tamara. Like, Warren enjoyed Tamara but... let's just say he was glad his heart wasn't in her hands after all.

Shen blinked, then realized she must've sounded even more horrible. "That was the issue! Not... I wouldn't've -" She was torn between wanting to protest that she wasn't like that and wanting to be offended that he might have thought she was like that.

"No, dude, I completely get it," Warren assured her, settling his free hand on her shoulder and squeezing. "And once you said it wasn't about feelings--honestly, I love Shinobi, but I don't really see you getting attached after a make out or two--and I know Tamara, and like, drunk logic. I get it."

With his hand on her shoulder, it could probably feel the moment all of that tension left her - well, okay, maybe not all of it, but all the one that had to do with him, and him understanding, and him not thinking awful things about her. "Thank you." She meant that, so much, the way you meant things a little too much when you were drunk. "It all sucks." She could feel the very beginning of a prickling at the back of her eyes, and she batted her eyelashes in a hurry. She wasn't going to tear up now! Nuh-huh. No way.

"Aw, come here, man." Warren pulled Shen into a hug, pulling her tight against his chest. "I know how it is. I've had friends be shitty to me too. It sucks. But hey, you still got me. And lots of people!"

Shen hugged him tight, thankfully, but still mumbled, after a moment, "Not an excuse to invisiblize my femininity. Don't 'man' me."

"I swear I meant it genderlessly and I know that doesn't make it okay so I apologize profusely. You are a bad-ass woman and I respect you like whoa." He gave her another squeeze, smiling into her hair.

"You're the best," Shen muttered, and hugged him a little tighter for a second. It was like only people with wings dared to really hug other people with wings, or something. "You know." The smile was audible in her voice. "For a rich white boy."

"Aw, such praise." Warren squeezed again before letting up a little and pulling back just enough to look (down to look) her in the eye. "You're gonna make me blush."

Shen laughed, looking up at him with a smile, her hands still on his waist (well, ish for one of them, since it still held her glass). "That'll be the day."

"Yeah. I guess I mean that more figuratively. That sounds more like me." He grinned.

"What, you're gonna make me blush?" Shen replied incredulously.

"Ha! I mean, I'm sure it's possible, don't get me wrong," Warren said with a chuckle. "But not by me. I'd be more likely to get smacked. Rightfully so." He toasted her with his glass. "No, I just meant it'd be more like me to figuratively blush than actually blush. Give lip service to blushing or... something."

Shen giggled. "Something." She leaned back in for another, briefer hug, for no other reason than he was here, and he was awesome. Her gaze landed on Jeanne-Marie a little way off, and she pulled back to look up at Warren speculatively, then just went with it. "Hey. So. Jeanne-Marie's totally miserable without Jean-Paul. And if you're dating him, he can't be a complete asshole."

"He's not." Warren sighed and ruffled his feathers in frustration. "But he's incredibly guarded when it comes to her. He still hasn't even told us what happened--and unless she said she never wanted to see him again unless he joined the X-Men, which I doubt, there's no way it was bad enough for this. He's miserable too."

"Yeah, no, she definitely didn't say anything like that to him," Shen confirmed, with absolute conviction. As if Jeanne-Marie would say that. She couldn't really tell Warren what her roommate had said, though, not without betraying her confidence, so she moved swiftly on. "So we should totally help them fix it, right? Nudge them in each other's direction or something?"

Warren nodded. "Hell yes. I mean, I've wanted to forever now, but he's just been wound so tight since they fought. All he wants to do is go to the gym or make out--like he forgot how to talk. It was better in Aspen, but I mostly dragged them there to get them away from their issues, so I didn't wanna crash the weekend...

"I'll talk to Simon and we'll figure out how to work on him. You talk to JM?"

Shen nodded decisively. "Yes. Totally."

"Deal." Warren sighed again. "Because this is awful. I mean, without saying too much, like--it took something like four or five dates for him to even tell me they hadn't grown up together. Dude does not like to talk about her, which is how I know it's the most important thing, you know?"

"So you didn't pick one of the easy ones, huh?" Shen stated, then realized what she'd said, and snickered. "I mean communicative. You know." How easy Jean-Paul was - or not - was none of her business, unless Warren wanted to share details.

Warren laughed... though it sounded a little like a giggle. "Simon's easier with talking about himself, which is pretty bad. JP's definitely easier though. Unless you get Simon drunk..."

Shen laughed at that addition, too drunk herself to think about consent, for once. "I can't believe you or Jean-Paul wouldn't be enough on your own, never mind the both of you."

“There’s enough and then there’s just right.” Warren winked. “Seriously though I don’t know if I’m just inclined to more than one partner in general or if this is, like, their specific magic. It’s fuckin awesome though.”

"I don't think it really matters, when you look this happy," Shen told him with a grin.

"More hugs!" he announced before going in for another one, balancing his drink with drunken care. Shen was so awesome!

Shen laughed and somehow managed not to spill her drink (probably because it was mostly empty) as she wrapped her arms around Warren. "And more dancing?" she asked hopefully, looking up at him.

"More dancing!" he agreed into her hair.
