Nick and Billy Backdated 8/30

Billy finds Nick and they play Mario Kart. Billy tries hard to reign in his trash talk.

Billy sighed as he dug into his hoodie pocket for the piece of bubble gum he had brought from his room, shoving it into his mouth and praying that Inuyasha wasn't in his or Tommy's room when he went to go get his pseudo brother.

He passed by the rec room, giving it a slight glance before continuing, then back tracking and taking a good look inside. Yep. There in the rec room on the couch playing video games was what looked like a werewolf from A Werewolf in London.

Now, Billy knew this had to be a student, because there was no way Xavier would just let a werewolf-thing run around and the guy was playing video games so it didn't give the rip your throat out vibe. He moved a little closer and grinned when he recognized the game the other was playing and pointed at the screen. "There's a korok right up there. It's better to get it with your glider, that way you don't waste all of Link's energy climbing."

"Oh, really?" Nick said, looking over his shoulder and then back to the screen so he could focus on what he was doing. "Thanks. I'm new to this, still. And I try to do almost every game the first time through without a guide," he said. "But friendly help's always welcome," he added, throwing a grin over his shoulder.

He then realized his manners, and with a bit of a start, paused the game. "Ah, sorry. I'm Nick," he said, feeling like maybe he'd jumped into an introduction, suddenly, and then he looked awkward again.

"I'm Billy." He smiled and held out his hand for a handshake. "And that's very admirable. I always say I'm going to do that, but then I get stuck on something hard and end up looking up cheats online. My brother says I'm cheating the experience, but hey, at least I'm having fun."

"I-I try," Nick said, considering the hand for just a moment before hesitantly going for a handshake; his claws always made him nervous. They were always so sharp, and seemed to get their edge back even if he filed them regularly. "I try not to cheat," Nick said. "But I don't blame people who do. Things are just hard sometimes," he said. "You wanna take a seat?" he invited. "I can switch to something we can play together, if you want."

Billy was careful not to stare when they shook hands and did his best not to hold on for too long cause the guy had really cool hands, but trying to look at them would probably be super rude.

"Thanks!" Billy chirped and plopped down next to Nick gracelessly. "I don't mind just watching you play, it's fun to watch. But if you want to play something together I'm all for it. What have you got?"

"I..." Now he was torn, and he didn't know what to do. But he should probably include his new friend. Well, acquaintance. Friend-to-be. "We can play Mario Kart?" he offered. It had worked fine with Shen, after all.

"Okay!" Billy agreed immediately. "Just know that Rainbow Road, took me years to master, but now I own it."

Mario Kart was a game that would put even the best of friends on a path to war. There was no friendship or love in the game, only dirty tricks and betrayal, but no one said that afterwards they couldn't be friends. Billy grinned as he switched the games for Nick and grabbed a controller for himself. "You ready to eat my dust and green shells?"

Nick, however, wasn't used to that sort of thing, and hearing those words mixed with such a jovial tone had him a bit surprised and in a bit of shock. "I-I, uh.... what?" Nick asked, utterly surprise. "D-do people normally talk like that when they play games together?"

Billy froze, his older brother competitive nature has just naturally come out when Mario Kart had been decided and he immediately felt guilty for pulling it out on Nick. "Ah...I'm sorry. I don't mean anything bad by it? I tend to trash talk when I play against my brothers."

Oh geeze. He hoped Nick wasn't offended by it.

"N-no, it's fine. I just... I've only played video games with my dad," he said. "A-and he isn't like that. He just ... y'know. Tells us to have fun. And do our best." He shrugged. "I just... the way you said it, I figured it was all in good fun, I just... had never heard someone talk like that before."

Now Billy really felt like an ass and he rubbed the back of his neck when the start screen exploded onto the television. "Man, I'm sorry. Your dad has the right idea, it's all for fun and everything. I'll try to keep my trash talking and taunting to a minimum, and if it bothers you please don't feel bad about telling me to shut up."

"Well, no, I mean, if it's... if it's something people do, then... I have to get used to it, right?" Nick asked, blinking at him. "I could tell it was all in good fun. A-and I've seen stuff kinda like that in movies, and on TV. So, it's not like ... y'know, I haven't seen it before. I've just never seen it in real life. It's kinda like..." He thought about it. "Like, you'd be surprised if someone walked away slowly from an explosion and looked really cool in real life, but you wouldn't be surprised about seeing it in a movie."

Billy couldn't help smiling when Nick tried to explain that it was okay for Billy to be himself while playing video games. "No, okay. I get what you mean. How about this? I'll do what I do when playing, but if it gets too much, just tell me and I'll tone it down for ya?"

Billy could do that, especially if Nick wasn't trash talking him back, that would make it easier not to get crazy.

"Okay," Nick said. "I don't mind, honest. Just, y'know. Don't sound mean about it," he said, chuckling just a bit. "Who's your favorite racer?" he asked, as he stood up to switch the games around to Mario Kart.

"Got it. I can do that for sure." He could be not mean, he'd just have to remember that this was Nick and not his twerp little brothers. Billy played around with the character screen, not landing on anything until he found Boo. "I'm a Boo fan. Gotta love the shy but evil ghost. You?"

He chuckled at the explanation of Boo. "I've always been a Yoshi fan," Nick replied, shrugging, switching his racer to the familiar green dinosaur. "Not sure why. He's just... he's cute."

"Yoshi is kick ass. Any dinosaur who can swallow their enemies whole is pretty fantastic. I think the only character I don't like is Wario and Wluigi, they drive me insane." He explained as he started picking his vehicle, always choosing a bike over a car.

"Which stage is your favorite? We can go there first."

Nick picked a car, because he always did. He always thought Yoshi looked kind of weird on a bike. "I always thought they were kind of annoying, too," he added, about Wario and Waluigi. "I don't really have a favorite stage. I guess just not Rainbow Road, huh?" he chuckled.

Billy grinned, leaning over to knock his shoulder gently against Nick, just in case it bothered the guy before he flipped past rainbow road. "Yeah, yeah. No rainbow for us today, I can deal. How about...the cow one?"

"The cow one's fine," Nick said, grinning back at Billy. "I have a lot of practice on all of 'em."

"Oh ho ho. We'll see! Let's see what you got." With that Billy pressed A and they were off.

Billy groaned and dropped his controller into his lap, not believing that he had only been able to beat Nick once out of four races. Maybe he was losing his touch, had to pass the torch onto someone else more worthy. "Damn...I have to say, I came in here completely confident and you made sure to destroy that."

He gave Nick a smile to let him know he wasn't actually upset.

Nick smiled over to him. "You're really good, though," he said. "And I get a lot of practice. I mean, I was kept inside from age eight until I got here," he explained. "Kinda... gave me plenty of video game time."

Billy whipped his head around to look at Nick like he'd grown a second head, not thinking for a second that that could be considered rude. "Since you were eight? Like, you never went outside at all?"

Nick was like a real live Patch Adams.

"Yeah," Nick confirmed, nodding. "I started changing when I was eight. My parents thought it would... y'know. Freak people out, to see me. So, they homeschooled me and kept me inside." He shrugged, like it was no big deal.

Billy refused to make a scene or act like that was ridiculous since it seemed that Nick was fine with it and he seemed to like his parents from the small amount of talking they had done. Instead he just nodded and gave a small smile. "Well, you've been outside on the school grounds, right?"

"Some, yeah," Nick said, nodding. "I'm... not really an outdoorsy kind of guy, though," he added.

"Preaching to the choir, buddy." Billy muttered, remembering his last camping trip with distaste. "Okay, but what about swimming? The have a pool here, you've been swimming before, right?"

"Before I changed, yeah," Nick said. "I can probably remember how to swim. But I dunno if they wanna deal with all the fur in the filters," he said.

"Well, when you open up a school for kids with different crazy abilities, I kinda think that they need to be prepared for anything." Billy picked Boo again for the next race, his choices not changing at all. "Do you miss being outside?"

"Eh, not really," Nick said, picking Yoshi again for the next race, because, well, habits. "I mean, it is nice to be able to go out. Mostly just, y'know. Without any risk of being ... seen, I guess?" He shrugged. "By people who wouldn't understand, I mean. I don't have any problems with people seeing me. Just... people hating, I guess."

Billy bit his lip and nodded, understanding the feeling of people hating on you for reasons you couldn't control. "Yeah, people suck. Well, a lot of them do, there are some cool ones like at this school."

He gently shoved his leg against Nick's. "How about you let me have a head start on this one? I'll let you have one when we play rainbow road?"

He chuckled a little. "Yeah, okay. I'll give you ..." He thought about it. "Ten seconds?" That was probably enough

"Okay! Ten seconds I will take, you race demon." Billy grinned and pressed start. "God, I hope that actually helps."
