Pam gets the call after Eileen discovers the note Wanda left behind regarding her most recent terrible decision.
Eileen didn't make much use of her phone; she preferred face-to-face interactions, personally, and she lived with most of the people on her extremely limited contact list, anyway. But when she found the scrap of paper Wanda had left behind for Pietro to find who-the-fuck-could-guess when in the future, she had yanked her phone out of her pocket so violently that the seam tore a bit. When she stabbed at the little, red-haired icon that would connect her to Pam at Xavier's, she was a little surprised the screen didn't crack beneath the force of her vehemence.
She was, in short, thoroughly livid. And the appliances in Asteroid M thrummed and sputtered uncertainly as the ambient magnetic fields twisted in response to her mood.
"A note!" she bellowed, as soon as someone picked up on the other end. "She left a fucking note! Can you even believe that shit? I just-- I can't-- FUUUUCK!" Eileen drew that last profanity out into a primal scream of pure frustration ... though she had enough sense of mind remaining to hold the receiver away from her mouth as she did so.
"What the fuck are you talking about?" Pam demanded after a moment spent staring dumbfounded at the phone. It was weird enough that Eileen was actually calling - something she couldn't remember ever having happened before. Incoherent swearing? - okay, actually, that did kind of sound like Eileen. But this was crazy, even for her. "Who left a note, and why?"
"Wanda," Eileen snapped, though her anger was obviously not directed at Pam. "She left a note for Pietro to let him know she went on a mission with fucking Summers. An extremely dangerous fucking mission, I assume, based on the extremely vague fucking nature of this fucking note, which pisses me off more every second I hold on to it."
Wanda. Well, that explained a whole lot. Pam rolled her eyes and waved her arm to get Alex's attention from across the cafeteria. "Are you guys going after her?"
"Of course we're going after her," Eileen said, her tone implying that Pam had just asked if water was wet. "But there's a problem. Our new teleporter's gone AWOL, and I'm not sure he'd be able to carry all of us at once even if I could find him." She paused a beat, struggling to piece the words together. "We need your help. Please."
At the other end of the room, Alex paused in the act of (re-)filling his lunch tray when he caught sight of Pam waving. A concerned look flashed across his face as he hurried over to her.
Eileen was saying please. Pam was pretty sure that was a sign of the apocalypse, right there. There was never a question as to the answer, though - she didn't even have to consult Alex to know that. "You've got it," Pam assured her. "I'm just flagging Alex down - he's on his way over - and we'll change and be there in a couple of minutes."
The blond actually sounded relieved as she replied, "Thanks. I owe you one." But her gruff tone quickly returned as she added, "You can hold Wanda down while I shove this note up her ass for doing something this fucking stupid without the rest of us."
Alex had gotten close enough by then to overhear Pam's side of the conversation, and he immediately went to return his tray to the cafeteria staff. He didn't know what she was talking about, or who she was talking with, but if she'd said they'd be changed and moving in a couple minutes, then Alex Summers meant to be changed and moving in a couple minutes.
"Sounds like I'd have to stand in line." Pam got to her feet, looked over to confirm that Alex was doing what she expected he was doing (he was) and opened a portal. "You want us to grab Tommy? Or do you want to call him? Because no way he wouldn't want to be in on this."
"I'll call him," Eileen said. Yeah, it would probably be easier to just let Pam teleport all three of them, but getting the call directly from her--still an active member of the Brotherhood--would probably help underscore how seriously they were taking the situation. And between Tommy's speed and Pam's teleportation … well, the difference in how fast they could rendezvous at Asteroid M wasn't likely to be much more than a matter of seconds. "Just get here as quick as you can, okay? We're eating into my valuable ass-kicking time, here."
"We'll be right there," Pam promised as she opened a portal and waved for Alex to join her. "Gotta go, though - the call's gonna drop when I teleport."
