A tiefling visits a dragon for no reason in particular.

Molly had no issues finding the entrance to Loki’s cave. The lamplight was lit with a warm welcome, and at the base of the steps a beaded curtain shimmered. As he passed through the curtain there was a plushly furnished corridor with champagne flutes set out along a table. Beyond that room, through a beaded curtain of a new shimmering color, was a table of tiny pastries. In the next passageway cocktails, and so on, until Molly reached the main cave decidedly buzzed.

The large black dragon was curled up in front of a crackling fireplace, on a furry rug that had to be the hide of some unspeakably large, fluffy creature. His green eyes slit open and his features relaxed into welcoming expression. “You made it. Hello, Mollymauk. Have you come to claim your side of the bargain today?”

"Hello, dear," Molly returned brightly. He picked his way carefully further into the room, both in deference to the no-doubt wondrous objects scattered around the room and in the current pleasant bubbly feeling in his head. "No, no. Still nothing I need. I was just in the area and thought I might stop by to say hello."

Once upon a time Loki visited Molly’s circus in his human guise. He hadn’t gone looking for a bargain, but Mollymauk offered him a reading. When the deck reacted strangely to Loki’s magic, some of the art transforming and cards duplicating, Mollymauk hadn’t batted an eye. Loki still owed him payment for the reading, but he frequently declined to name terms. It kept Molly coming back.

“You’re always welcome,” Loki acknowledged. “Make yourself comfortable.”

And at that, Molly just weaved his way across the rest of the room and dropped down with a decided lack of grace to lean against the dragon's side. Well, Loki had said to make himself comfortable. "Do you get everyone sloshed on the way in or do I rate special treatment?"

Loki curled his tail around Molly. “You are pretty special.”

"That's quite the compliment, coming from you." He absently patted the scaled tail and let it go. Loki would answer what he wanted. "And what have you been up to lately?"

Loki sighed contently. “Lots of visitors this week. Not many attempted murders.”

Knowing Loki, that was either a good thing or meant that he was dreadfully bored. Or both. "Anyone looking for anything interesting?"

Depending on the terms of the deal Loki wouldn’t share details. Cal, on the other hand, made no deals. “I had a bounty hunter come looking for something on behalf of a client. No trades in mind. I was surprised when he came back a couple days later to check in. That’s two visitors wanting nothing from me. Very unusual.”

"Perhaps we just like your company." Molly certainly did. "I had no idea you were playing information broker now, though. I thought it was more the oracle angle."

“Oracles give guidance and ask nothing beyond coffer filling in return generally. Secrets are very easily traded commodity.” Loki traced the tip of his tail along Molly’s tattooed arm. “But you know nothing about that surely.”

"Nothing at all," Molly agreed solemnly. "Do I look like someone who has any secrets?"

"You look like the blankest of slates." Loki chuckled.

"Rude. Possibly." Not that Molly looked all that upset about it. Mostly he was relaxing into Loki's scaly hold, head tipped back against the dragon's body. "Heard any good stories lately?"

“The true or the fantastic kind?” Loki asked. “There are several new shows opening in the village. I believe one bombed last night.”

"I don't see why those are mutually exclusive," Molly said and hummed. "Oh, I do love a good failed venture. Was it impressively terrible?"

“The writer calls himself a visionary, ahead of his time. The leading man apparently had the range of a plank of wood. The supporting lady was overheard in a tavern later that night shouting how she was too good for this shit, and that if men would stop writing dicks as their main characters she’d be able to hold down a job for more than one night.” Loki hummed thoughtfully.

"I'm sorry to have missed it." He sounded genuine too, if deeply amused. "We could have made a lovely evening of it."

“There may be something interesting on tonight,” Loki suggested. “Would you like to maybe go out?” Molly was one of the few people that knew both of his forms. This wasn’t an offer he made often.

"Oh, that could be fun." He craned his head back to peer up at the dragon. "Nothing keeping you indoors for the evening?"

The dragon stretched, pushing Molly to sit up right. In a swirl of shadow his shape shifted down into the young man that visited Molly’s carnival all that time ago. “You’re the only one keeping me this evening,” he suggested. “It’ll be good to stretch.”

He huffed a little at losing his comfortable seat, but the alternative was just as good. Molly smiled brightly as he lithely found his feet and held a hand out to him. "Well if I'm going to be escorting for you for the evening, I'd better do it properly then."

Loki took the offered hand, smiling softly. Molly was terrible for his evil dragon image.
