Billy and Illyana | Takedown, Pre-Rescue

Billy and Illyana take a trip to Limbo and scry for their missing teammates.

"I'm sorry. I honestly can't scry decently on Earth," Yana apologized, not for the first time, as she and Billy appeared just outside her newly constructed tower, the flames of the moat lending an interesting green and purple tint to the stone in the fading light.

If circumstances had been different, she'd have been excited to have the opportunity to show it to him. As it was, she just gestured for him to follow her inside and into a room she'd set aside for magical working. The walls were lined with bookshelves holding spell ingredients, and a stone scrying bowl was set in the middle of the floor, inside a double-rimmed pentagon.

"Did you grab something of Alex's?" she asked. Tommy she was nearly sure she could find without; if worse came to worse, she could draw on the similarity between him and Billy. But she barely knew Alex. She was going to need something tangible.

Billy had very little time to look at or even admire the tower Yana had made for herself, clutching his messenger back tight as he followed her into it. He wouldn’t let himself get freaked out just by being back here, this was important and he needed to be able to put his shit aside in order to save people. Yana needed his help and he would do it no matter what. He nodded when she asked the question, opening his bag and pulling out a sweatshirt that was obviously well worn and cared for, handing it over to her. “Do we need anything else from anybody?”

Illyana shook her head as she took a seat in front of the bowl. "I don't think so. They tracked Pietro's phone, and I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be able to scry for Caleb anyway. Too much interference." She offered a faint, what she hoped was reassuring smile for Billy's benefit as she gestured for him to take a seat. "Tommy I should be able to find without anything. It's amazing how much having made out with someone helps with that. Even if it only happened once."

Even though he was terrified and worried about what was happening to his brother, the mention of Tommy and Yana making out made his face twist. “Ew. Alright, please don’t make me think about that.”

"I'm so going to repeat it over and over later, just to mess with you," Illyana teased. She pulled her legs in, rested her hands on them, and closed her eyes. "I'll pull it up, you watch, ok?"

Billy nodded and moved out of the way in case she needed more room or something. He had never tried scrying or even tracking with his powers, though it could be extremely useful like in cases like this so he should learn.

Alright. Illyana took a deep breath and exhaled slowly, trying to push down her own reactions. She could scry when upset, yes - but the results would be questionable. Knowing where people had been six months ago really wouldn't help the situation now.

"Tommy first," she whispered, focusing her energies on the water in the bowl. "Let me know when you see something useful? I can try and zoom in or out."

The water darkened and began to spiral slowly, the speed gradually increasing. A jumble of images appeared, a high speed, fractured montage of still frame photos of Tommy's life - too fast to process, barely identifiable as his, but with an undefinable feel to them that proved that they were to those capable of picking up on it. Eventually, the water stilled and settled in on an image of him in the present - collared, looking somewhat the worse for wear and wearing hospital scrubs, but definitely him.

Billy couldn’t help himself, when he saw his brother he moved closer to the bowl of water, gritting his teeth at the sight of how bad Tommy looked. Those fuckers. They had put a collar around him...Cal had that when they had rescused him and it had made his powers useless. Billy growled, hating the idea of Tommy feeling cut off from his speed and he watched to reach out and grab his brother, save him and hold him tight. “There. You got him, Yana.”

Nodding but afraid to open her eyes lest she lose the image, Illyana asked, "Can you see where he is? Or get a feel for it?"

Billy frowned as he tried to get a better look at Tommy’s surroundings, then reached out to place is finger on the bowl to see if he could get any kind of feeling. A weird shiver ran down his spine as he got a feeling of touching Yana’s magic and he wondered how it would feel if he pushed just a little more. “Try zooming out...I can see he’s in a lab, but if I can get more detail maybe I can teleport with just an image.”

"Okay." Pursing her lips, Illyana concentrated - and the image slowly zoomed out, revealing first the hallway outside Tommy's cell, then a building surrounded by a chainlink fence. Behind it, cars raced past on a multi-lane highway, with skyscrapers beyond it. "Is that far enough?" she asked, her voice tight. Focusing in was always easier than pulling out.

Billy made sure to try and memorize everything he saw. The shapes of the buildings, the highway and how tall the fence was. “Alright. I got it.”

"Can you find it?" Illyana asked, just to make sure before she let the image go.

“Yeah.” Billy said, the need to find Tommy making him sure in his powers for once. “I don’t recognize it, but if I memorize the area I can get us there.”

He took in one last long look before nodding. “I’m good.”

Illyana swallowed, but nodded and let the image fade. then opened her eyes and reached over for Alex's sweatshirt. She paused, hand outstretched, and instead reached over and squeezed Billy's hand. "You'll get him back," she assured him. "And he'll be ok. It's Tommy. He's too stubborn to not be okay." Though she had to admit, he hadn't really looked okay to her.

Billy gulped and took hold of her hand, squeezing it tight as he tried to calm himself down. He had to wait for the X-Force to come up with a plan and then they would go save Tommy and the others. “Yeah, you’re right. Tommy is strong and we’ll get him back. We’ll get them all back.”

"Of course we will." Illyana forced a smile. "You're working with the Brotherhood. We get shit done."

That was really the first time he had heard Yana vocally consider herself part of a team and even though it made him sad that it wasn’t his team she was proud to be on...he was glad she had a place. He nodded and gave her a weak smile of his own. “Yeah? Well then, let’s find Alex and do this.”

Yana let her smile fade, nodded, and reached for the sweatshirt. They had work to do.
