Jeanne-Marie scores a dance with Mr. Popularity. Tommy manages to have fun in spite of a few awkward turns of conversation.

For once, Tommy didn't have girls around him. Jeanne-Marie had seen him with Wynonna--something was going on there, though she wasn't sure what, and she meant to find out!--and Shen, of course, and even Fatale--who was apparently Tommy's friend or something even before she'd come to Xavier's. But now that he was unaccompanied, and so was she, she pounced! She finished off her beverage, which went directly to her head. And zipped over in a flash to stand before him. She teetered slightly with the effect of alcohol and the rapid slowdown, then giggled. "Oh, that made me lose some of my buzz!" Stupid speed metabolism.

"At least you can get one without shotgunning half a bottle," Tommy teased her back, shaking his head in mock regret. If there was one thing he could count on JM for it was zero girl-drama, and that sounded fan-fucking-tastic right about now. "Where's Kurt? You ditch him already? I should have known you'd eventually realize I was the better man." He laid it on super-thick with a grin and a wink, pushing thoughts of his argument with Pam way to the back of his mind.

Jeanne-Marie giggled and took Tommy's hand easily, without even a thought to whether that was appropriate anymore. "Of course! Though I must admit, I will miss that tail! It makes hugs even better..." She gave him a tug to bring him closer to her--and the dance floor. "But you've got so many girls tonight, you don't need me! I haven't even had a dance!"

She was definitely buzzed, which was cute as all hell, and Tommy let her pull him along. At least if she was in a funny touchy-feeling blitzed kind of mood he knew he wasn't going to take advantage of her. "Can't have that," he agreed cheerfully, "you know you're always my number one, no matter how popular I am."

"Reeeallllyyyy?" She sing-songed over her shoulder. Tommy was so much fun! "But who am I making jealous right now? Surely some of the others."

Was she angling at something? Tommy cocked his head at her and played dumb. "Only the whole world, why?"

She giggled and executed a little spin under his arm once they reached the dance floor area. She curled his arm around her so she was wrapped up, her back to his front, and looked up and back at him with a little smirk. "C'est vrai. Okay then, let's make them green!"

Tommy spun her out, half-assed swing-dance style, before pulling her back towards him and tucking his other arm around her waist. "So how buzzed are you, for the record?" he asked, grinning. "Do I need to watch out for my shoes?"

"In two more drinks" --because yes, time was now marked by how many she'd had-- "yes. Now, no! Anyhow I'll disappear into the woods with Kurt before that happened." Then she giggled as she danced up close, pulling Tommy's arm tighter around her--had she said that aloud?

Yeah, he wasn't entirely convinced that it would take two more, but giggly JM was good fun anyway. He gave a low whistle that ended with a laugh. "Go, Kurt. I'll remember not to go knocking on his door too early tomorrow morning." He fell in step to the beat, spinning her under his arm.

"I shouldn't say that out loud!" Jeanne-Marie couldn't stop giggling though, even as she spun, ponytail swinging behind her. "It's not that alcohol makes me worse, it just makes me say things."

"It's cute," Tommy promised, "and your loose lips are safe with me." He snickered at his own entirely unintentional innuendos, but moved on to keep teasing her. "It's reassuring to know you have a dirty side, even if you don't show it. It means you won't get mad at me for not being perfect."

"But you are," Jeanne-Marie insisted through her continued laughter and easy movement. "Just as you are. Bumps and all--is that the expression? No, warts! Warts and all!"

"I don't have warts, and anyone who says I do is a stinking liar." Tommy reeled her in, setting his hands (chastely, thank you very much) on her waist.

"Metaphorically," she said pointedly, with pursed lips that immediately slackened into a huge smile. "We all have them. Some of us just make them look better!"

Tommy laughed, mostly with her. Only a little bit at her. "I always look awesome, so no argument from me."

"Exactly," she said with great authority. "Your dirty side is all a part of that. Though I think it might be more impressive than mine. I should work on that!"

"My dirty side is my wart?" Tommy asked, wavering between amused and confused.

Jeanne-Marie just laughed. "You don't understand anything!" But she didn't sound remotely bothered by that.

Tommy shook his head and sighed. "So I keep hearing tonight. Maybe I'm fine, and it's all of you who are confusing," he pointed out with a grin.

"That attitude could be a sign of madness, you know.

"Who else has befudded... no, befuddled! Who else has befuddled you?" She'd never used that word before, but she'd wanted to since she'd first read it.

He rolled his eyes. "Fatale's being weird. But she's been twitchy since she and Alex got here."

"Well, it must be a strange experience for her," Jeanne-Marie, even more charitable than usual now she was drunk, reasoned sweetly. "Try not to be too hard on her? Even if she seems the sort who's always hard on everyone else."

"She's the one who's mad at me," Tommy defended himself, ruffling with irritation. "And I know, she hasn't had it easy. I know that better than most people. It doesn't mean that I somehow know how to magically fix it.'

"Oh, no, and I didn't mean to say that." Jeanne-Marie was still smiling; Tommy was cute when he got defensive--up to a point! she didn't want to make it worse, but the dancing helped, she was sure. "What is she mad about? How can anyone stay mad at you?"

Tommy groaned and tugged her in for a spin to distract himself from the irritation and defensive annoyance rising in him again. "She's pissed at me because I didn't tell her I was hooking up with Wynonna. It's not like we're dating or anything."

"Aren't youuuu?" Jeanne-Marie giggled and waggled her eyebrows. "No, no, don't be annoyed! I'm only teasing! She's so beautiful--to be honest I even thought about kissing her once! Briefly, but still. I don't generally think that about girls."

"Thank you," Tommy said reverently, putting one hand over his heart. "I mean it. That is an image that's going to stick with me for a long, long time."

She made a face and poked at him with one finger. Then laughed. "You're the worst. Meaning the best."

He made the same face right back at her, laughing. "And that's why you love me. Go on, don't be afraid to say it. Kurt will understand."

"Because he loves you too," she replied.

"Pffft," Tommy dismissed that with a wave of his hand. "Didn't you catch the photos on the school board? Bobby's your only competition."

Jeanne-Marie giggled again and spun in close to Tommy. "Then I think I am safe. Bobby's cute. But I'm cuter."

Tommy nodded seriously, wrapping his arms around her for a second before letting her go again. "Yep. I completely agree." A few beats later and he decided they'd pretty much exhausted that line of conversation. "So what are you guys doing this summer, anyway? Back to Montreal?"

"No, we'll stay here," she swayed a little with him, in close though he'd let go. "With our friends and boyfriends. So many boyfriends!"

"There are definitely a lot of boyfriends happening there." Tommy snorted a laugh at her phrasing. "Only one for you though, right?"

"My one and only," she assured him, smile going a little dopey.

He was hit with a pang of something that wasn't quite jealousy -- not of JM, not specifically, but the look on her face when she was thinking about Kurt left him unsettled and a little... hollow. Like he was standing on the outside of something looking in. "Stop being so cute," he snorted, reaching for a way to break the mood. "You're gonna give me cavities."

She laughed and threw both arms around his neck. "Then I'll shut up and dance if you do!"

"This woman is my destiny," he sang along, laughing as he did and looping his arms casually around her waist. "She said ooh- shut up and dance with me."
