Pike and Percy | May 12th

Pike finishes what she started, and frees Percy from his cast.

Pike hummed happily as she strolled down the hallway, not in any rush to get to Percy. Which was probably kind of mean, now that she thought about it, given that she was headed to try to finish healing his broken arm.

But she was enjoying wandering around the school! And maybe she'd gotten lost a little, but she knew she'd get where she wanted to go eventually.

Smiling as she reached Percy's door, she knocked a jaunty little pattern.

It took a moment, but eventually the door opened and Percy stood on the other side of it. As with the day before when Vox Machina had first been reunited with their missing piece, he was dressed far more neatly than their previous arrangements had allowed. The shirt was a bit more careworn, an older piece, but a favorite in a dark blue that brought out his eyes, and the sleeves were still rolled up to accommodate for a cast covered in signatures and innuendo.

Percy smiled. “Pike! Come in. You just missed Vax. He’s out with Vex.”

"Percy!" Pike returned his greeting, appreciating his outfit with a distant pang in her gut, a memory of when she'd had a bit of a crush on her friend. It hadn't been something she'd dwelled on, and she was ecstatic at him and Vax being together, but it was like running across someone you knew years ago - a moment of recognition before you moved on. He was dressed nicer than Pike, in any case, who had just grabbed the first shirt and jeans she came across in her suitcase. The shirt was a bright sky blue, though, which blended with the new silver sheen of her hair.

Walking up to Percy, she reached out to touch the cast, smiling briefly at the messages before a frown won out. "How are you feeling?”

“Better, thank you,” Percy replied as he made room for Pike to come into the room. “Itchy beyond belief, but better.”

"Itchy?" Pike became immediately concerned. Had she messed him up when she tried to heal him yesterday? She'd wanted to fix him as soon as she saw the cast, but had almost been knocked on her arse trying it. She maybe should have known better, since she'd already felt pretty terrible from the jetlag. But she'd just wanted to make him better!

Percy lifted his arm and said with a wry kind of amusement, “Four weeks of sweat and dead skin. Disgusting, but perfectly normal.”

"Well, let's get rid of it then," Pike smiled, relieved, and reached out to grasp his exposed fingers between her two hands. “Ready?"

Percy gave Pike his hand. He couldn’t wait to be rid of this damn thing. “Ready.”

Pike gently squeezed her fingers around his and closed her eyes. She could sense a... wrongness in front of her, and with her basic first aid she could clearly picture Percy's radius and ulna (okay, and she'd done a quick google search once he told her what was wrong). As she focused, a soft glow started at her fingers and moved up her arms until light radiated from every bit of exposed skin, glowing brighter and brighter until it was as bright as a light bulb.

She didn't have a good description for what she did, other than she held an image of intact arm bones in her mind, and willed him to be better again. It seemed like an impossible thing, but Pike had faith that her God-given powers would work. She unconsciously removed her left hand and clutched at the cross and sunburst charms on her necklace, making the light around her face even brighter.

Though this was now the second time Percy had watched Pike’s mutation at work, it was still an incredible sight to see. She glowed with a golden light. It seemed to emanate from within and surrounded her, crowning her head like a halo. She had always been the healer of their little group, the one whose presence soothed and whose words had eased hurts, and now she really was a healer.

Warmth spread through Percy’s body, then receded again until it was centered on the break in his arm. He smiled when the light faded completely and flexed what he could of his fingers. They moved easily and without any pain. “Wonderful. Simply wonderful. You’re a gift, Pike.”

Pike blinked her eyes open at his words, and her eyes crinkled with her smile. "I'm just glad I could help you." And with the sense of wrongness gone, she knew she actually had. It was immensely gratifying, knowing that her friends could be a little bit safer with her around. "Though I'm a little sad I won't have the honor of signing this thing now," she tapped at a piece of choice innuendo with a mischievous look.

Percy retrieved a marker from his desk and offered it out to Pike. “By all means.”

Pike's eyes went a little wide with joy. Was it weird that it was this that made her feel like she was back with the group? She found a blank spot and scribbled: All hail Pike the bone-fixer! She intentionally slanted the dash to look like an 'r' and snort-giggled at Percy. "So tell Vax he owes me, eh?”

Percy looked at the message Pike had left and smiled. “For fixing my arm, or for challenging him to a battle of innuendo wits?”

"Both," Pike widened her eyes to make herself look earnest. "But you don't get to be the judge, you'll play favorites.”

“I’d never. Not for something as serious as an innuendo battle. We’d have a panel of judges. As is proper.”

"Oh of course," Pike snorted, then gave Percy a wide grin. "Oh, I missed you lot. It wasn't half so fun after we went our separate ways.”

Percy leaned in to give Pike a hug. “We missed you too. I think we’re all in agreement that we won’t ever split up again.”

"Good," Pike said into his chest as she squeezed him back. When she pulled away she asked, "And it seems like this is a pretty good new home base?”

“So far. It’s certainly warmer and better furnished than Greyskull Keep.” Percy did still miss the old warehouse, though. It had been Vox Machina’s first home together, and it would always hold a special place for him.

"True," Pike's smile turned a little sad. She missed it there, or the world that they had created while they were there. "We'll just have to make this place twice as fun," she added brightly, not wanting to bring down the conversation. "At least, after you lot are done being boring with your finals.”

Percy smiled and said, “I think most everyone would agree with you on being boring.” He, of course, was enjoying finals, but he’d always been boring in that regard and apparently nearly dying and spending some time on the streets hadn’t managed to change that.

"Bah," Pike said easily. "Just because I don't enjoy reading all those books doesn't mean they aren't interesting. And I've got you to tell me about why it's cool, yeah?”

Percy sighed dramatically, but the laughter in his eyes gave it away as a joke. “Someday there will be someone in our group who likes books.”

"Vex probably likes expensive books, as long as they can sell for a profit," Pike snorted. "But this way we'll never try to steal your stock?”

“Unlikely,” Percy said wryly. If someone, mainly Scanlan, thought they could get use out of his books, be it monetary, just for laughs, or God knows what else, they would definitely try to steal them.

"Yes, well," Pike conceded. She glanced back at his cast and opened her mouth to ask if he wanted to go get it removed, but instead what came out was, "How are you doing? Not physically," she clarified, "unless I missed something, but. You know, how are you feeling? It must have been terrifying, getting snatched.”

Percy dropped the marker back on his desk, and sat down on the edge of his and Vax’s pushed together beds. “It was,” he exhaled a chuckle, “an experience. I’m alright.” It was true, even if it was the same answer he would have given when he hadn’t been alright. He still had nightmares occasionally, but he’d had those before and, when he woke from them, Vax was there.

“We made it out with only minor injuries between us. I’d feel better if the madman behind it all had been caught, but given the man’s fetish for over the top, cheap carnival tricks, I’ve no doubt it’ll happen eventually.”

Pike rubbed at her mouth, frowning. "I didn't know we had so many enemies out there. What happened to the world, to make so many people hate us? Was it always like this and I just didn't know?”

Percy hated to darken Pike’s world view, but he supposed if someone had to do it, it might as well be him. “We’re minorities, Pike. Some of us in more way than one. People are afraid of what’s different, and they lash out. But, Arcade didn’t do it because he hated us. He thought we’d make a good show. He was a businessman.”

Pike's frown morphed into a scowl. "I hate arsewipe bullies more than anything else. Whether they think they can push us around because they're rich, or powerful, or have the right genetics. Like we're objects to move around instead of people." She clenched her fists. "Sometimes I just wanna stop them, you know?”

“I do,” Percy replied with a sad smile. Brave Pike, always ready to take on the world for people. She had such a good heart. “Perhaps one day we will.”

"When we're strong enough," Pike nodded. It was a lovely thought.

Percy nodded once. “When we’re strong enough.” He gestured to his right arm, eager to change the topic. “I’m dying to get this cast off. Would you like to join me?”

Pike blinked, "Of course! Gotta make sure I didn't make a mess of it, after all!”

“I’m not worried. I have faith in you.” Percy went to the door and opened it. “Really, the issue is that it itches like an absolute bugger.”

At his words, Pike grinned so hard she thought she might be glowing again. "Well, let's go fix that."
