Loki & Warren (Mar 29)
Warren invites Loki to join his mutant publicity tour. Loki is cordial and unimpressed. There's just something about blond demigods...
Right. Time to get some shit done—shit Warren should’ve gotten done ages ago but—
Look, he just needed about 3 more hours every day. That’d fix it.
Still, this one was long overdue. And if Simon said Loki was all right, Warren was 100% prepared to erase that face-palming first impression of seeing Loki be an Asgardian jackass and wipe the slate clean.
Either way, the guy was a good resource. And they needed resources. Warren smoothed his modified CBGB t-shirt and checked to make sure he’d remembered to put on shoes. Then he knocked on Loki’s door.
Loki wasn't expecting anyone, but a drop by visitor was hardly new. One never knew when blue women offering secrets and snacks might show up at the door. With a casual paranoia built from years of escalating prank wars with his brother, Loki checked to see if he recognized who it was before opening the door.
Behold, another golden god beyond Loki's door. If it wasn't Warren Posterboy for Mutantkind Worthington III. He schooled his expression into a benign smile before letting the door creek open. His eyes were sharp with suspicion.
"Hello. Are you looking for Duo?" Loki asked.
Warren caught the look, but smiled right through it, extending his hand. “For you, actually. Been meaning to say hi—more than just passing in the halls now and then. I’m Warren.” Which was stupid, because he knew goddamn well Loki knew goddamn well who he was, but still. Had to be done.
Loki arched a brow. "Yes. You are." He reached slowly to take the proffered hand, giving it the required degree of handshake.
Warren knew that trick but took it in stride. “So, shit’s getting crazy and I wondered if you had a few minutes to talk about it?”
By shit, Loki assumed he was referring to the Brotherhood debacle from the prior day. A few minutes was about all Loki had. He hadn't expected to go home for spring break, but with yesterday's news he'd received first a 'stand down' notice from his family, and then official summons to meet his mother in NYC. They'd apparently be doing their press responses together, and then Loki was returning home with her for the week, maybe longer.
"I have a few minutes," Loki admitted. With the given topic, he deflated a bit. "I'm heading for the city tonight. I was just packing."
“Oh, I mean, if you don’t mind? I could help,” Warren offered. “I kind of wish I’d made spring break plans, now, but I’m also kind of relieved I didn’t...”
Loki stepped back so Warren could enter. “This wasn’t planned. Are you also on a mission of damage control?”
"Hoping to be shortly." Warren tucked his wings up as tight as he could and moved into the room. "I took last night to mourn the progress I thought we'd already made, but now I'm up and at em. I've been meaning to ask you to brainstorm new ideas with me since you got here--I feel like I lost a month somewhere."
A season, Loki thought uncharitably. "Oh? It seems like your group is working on very detailed plans. The rotation of talk shows, press conferences, protests... It's fascinating to watch this process unfold with students. Crushing fresh souls into the press engine."
"Ah! Yeah, that's exactly what I was hoping to talk about," Warren said, feathers ruffling as he laughed. "Fresh souls. Yours especially, but I'll take whatever you've got." He only narrowly avoided saying 'You can trust me, I'm an angel,' because he was good at reading rooms, and Loki seemed... slightly lukewarm?
"My soul isn't very fresh," Loki pointed out wryly. "It's been recycled for a very long time. Did you want to add my face to your rotation of positive reinforcement? Or did you have something specific in mind?"
"You seem like an idea guy," Warren said with a slight shrug that lifted his wings. He tucked one up tight and leaned a hip against the nearest desk where he wouldn't knock anything over. "I doubt you were meant for standard rotation. I figured we could come up with something actually, you know. Interesting."
Loki considered and then moved to slide a book from his nightstand into his messenger bag. “Are you leaning towards words or actions?”
"I get the sudden feeling we're playing Truth or Dare." Warren cocked an eyebrow but smiled. "Actions."
Loki glanced at Warren thoughtfully. “I’ll have to think about it. Does Simon know about this?”
Warren's brow furrowed. "Not at the moment, but he will. I tell him everything. Poor guy."
Loki nodded. “Okay. Just want to make sure he’s not blindsided, since he’s associated with both of us publicly. I’d hate to hinder the master plan of making his father rue the day he stopped associating with his son.”
Though Warren failed to see how the two of them doing a public thing could hinder Simon, he appreciated Loki's concern enough not to question it. "It's a shared interest," was all he said instead.
"I'm not sure how long I'll be away," Loki admitted. "I think this is only for the start of the break."
"Think about it while you're gone," Warren suggested. "And I will too."
Loki’s lips twisted with a wry smirk. “Well, I can take comfort in knowing you’ll think of me while I’m away.” There was a scarf hanging off the corner of Duo’s bed. It was their scarf, but Loki picked it up to slide into his messenger bag along with the book.
"Bon voyage," Warren said sincerely, chuckling from the crack. He eyed the scarf situation, but it was none of his business, and he didn't know Loki. "Good luck with the family. Or--have fun with them, I guess, if they're nothing like mine."
“Thank you,” Loki said, not confirming which scenario it pertained to.
Well, this had been decidedly less enthusiastic than Warren had been hoping for, but maybe Loki was just annoyed about having to go home? Warren mentally shrugged it off and physically nodded. "Look me up when you get back and feel up to some new adventures." He opened the door.
“I will,” Loki assured. “Good luck with this end of the show.”
