Billy and Kitty | Backdated to the FoH Detonation
After Yana decides to leave Xavier's, Kitty finds herself at Billy's door.
After leaving Yana in their - her room, Kitty found herself heading to the boy's dorm. She didn't really know if she was looking for Scott, or Bobby, or even Tommy, but somehow she ended up standing outside Billy and Teddy's room, staring at the door, trying to figure out whether she wanted to scream or cry. She knew she was supposed to feel something - she did - but everything was numb.
She raised her hand to knock on the door, then dropped it, turning to slump down to the floor, her back against the door. What was she doing? Billy shouldn't even find out like this. No one should find out like this. And yet, she desperately didn't want to be alone.
Billy frowned when he got a text from Yana, asking him if he was busy and had been about to answer it when he heard a dull sound against his door. He tilted his head a little and raised an eyebrow, standing up before he moved over to the door.
“Hello?” He cracked the door open a little, surprised to find someone against it. Not just someone, someone he hadn’t really talked to in awhile. He pulled the door open a little wider so he could kneel down next to her. “Kitty? Y-you Okay?”
When she'd felt the door shift against her back, Kitty had straightened so she didn't fall back into the room when Billy opened it wider. And it was Billy, which she was grateful for. She loved Teddy, but things had been off with them since Limbo. She started to say something about, sorry for sitting against your door, or maybe we should go inside, but when she opened her mouth, nothing came out. Instead, she just started shaking a little, which was totally embarrassing. Without thinking about it, she reached out for Billy and just wrapped herself around him, hiding her face in his shirt. For the first time in their entire relationship, she suddenly felt exactly as young as she was.
Billy was shocked to say the least when Kitty just hugged him, his arms instinctively moving to wrap around her and pat her on the back. “Kitty? What’s going on? Are you hurt?”
He made sure to reach over and shut the door so they would have privacy, then led her over to the bed. He gently tried to move her so he could at least see her face, worry starting to rise into his throat at how she was acting. “Kitty? Talk to me?”
Managing to fumble onto the bed, Kitty gulped a breath of air and wiped at one eye with the back of her hand. “She’s leaving.”
Billy sat carefully on the bed beside her and rubbed at her back. He frowned when she said someone was leaving, but the only girl Kitty could be this upset about leaving would be... “Yana? Yana is leaving? What do you mean?”
"I mean she's leaving," and now Kitty managed to sound angry, wiping at her face furiously. "She's leaving us! She's choosing the Brotherhood!"
“What?” The question came out a little high pitched and he quickly glanced back at his phone as he remembered the text Yana had sent. What the hell? “She...she can’t really do that...I mean, why would she?”
He felt a spark of anger mixed in with his panic. He had a lot of mixed feelings about the Brotherhood, but one of his best friends leaving them for the group made his stomach sour. “Is it cause of Pyro?”
"Yes. No. She says that the Brotherhood are more her," Kitty ground out, sitting up a little straighter. "But yes, him too. She says she's just been pretending to understand our feelings."
“Pretending?” What the hell did that even mean? Billy frowned and ran his hands through his hair as he tried to let this all sink in. “Like how we felt about the Brotherhood? And she’s joining them right after the fuck up royally?”
"That's just the thing." Kitty swiped a few tears away and shook her head angrily. "She doesn't think they did!"
“What?” Billy asked a little too loudly, the idea that Yana thought the Brotherhood had done right made him want to hit something. He pinched the bridge of his nose and growled a little, knowing Yana had always been morally gray but this was- “They hurt people! I mean, I still am talking to them cause Wanda and Pietro are there, but that doesn’t mean I agree with what they did. Now she’s just jumping over there cause...”
He wanted to find Yana. Yell at her, tell her she was being dumb, try to make her see why this wasn’t a good idea, but he stayed next to Kitty. “So...what does she expect us to do? Be fine with it?”
Kitty didn't want to be crying, but the water just kept flowing, and she was forced to wipe furiously at her cheeks with her fingers. She was shaking too, but she couldn't tell if she was shaking with anger or sadness or both. She would guess both. "I don't know," she told him helplessly. "Yes? I don't know! She just. She just told me she was leaving. Just. Just like that. Just like that she's..."
She shook her head angrily, tears flying messily.
Billy grit his teeth, but got up to go to Teddy’s desk where the other kept a box of Kleenex and grabbed a few. He sat back down next to Kitty and handed them to her before placing his arm around her shoulder, pulling her close. He was upset and angry , but Kitty needed someone comforting right now and it sure as hell couldnt be Yana. “It’s okay...I mean, it’s not. She’s making a stupid mistake, but we’ll figure it out okay?”
He rubbed her arm as soothingly as he could, hating that his eyes were stinging.
Kitty scrubbed her face and nose with tissues, then leaned into Billy, tucking her face against his shoulder. "Yeah. Figure it out," she mumbled miserably.
Billy held her tight, pressing a kiss to her hair as he thought of what he would say to Yana when he found her and he for sure was going to find her. This was such a bad idea. “Yana has made dumb mistakes before, but she usually learns from them. Maybe, she just needs to see this through to...”
Ugh. Who was he kidding? They had Pyro, a looser moral code and no school. She was going to love it there.
"Ugh, Billy stop," Kitty managed, though she squeezed him tight. "She made her choice. She chose them. She chose Pyro."
And didn’t that just fucking hurt. Billy bit his lip and moved his face into her hair, trying not to sniffle too loudly. That was the whole thing in the end, they hadn’t been good enough for her to stay. “This is the worst...”
Kitty was quiet, anger flaring in her chest again as she thought about how Illyana could leave Billy, who had been looking to her like a mentor. Forget how Yana could leave Kitty - how could she leave Billy? She tightened her hug on him. "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry."
He shook his head, pulling back so he could tuck Kitty’s hair behind her ear. “It’s okay. It’s not even your fault.”
It wasn’t. It was none of their fault, it was all Yana’s choice and he was going to find her and get answers. “Thank you for telling me Kitty...I have a feeling I would have exploded at her if she’d told me herself.”
