Billy finally gets up the nerve to go to talk to Jeanne-Marie about her reaction to him kissing Kurt.
Billy stood outside Jeanne-Marie’s door and hoped she was inside as he reached out to knock twice. He had wanted to talk to her ever since that conversation with her and Tommy, but then things had gotten crazy with parties, holidays and brotherhood stuff. He swallowed a little, nerves starting to creep up about the topic he wanted to discuss but shook them off quick when he remembered that this was JM and they could talk about anything.
Jeanne-Marie turned off her music and gladly set down her pencil. Homework was too boring, and she was feeling lonely since Shen hadn't been around for a few hours. She went to the door and opened, then gave a huge grin when she saw who it was. "How did you know I wanted company?" She stepped back to gesture him in.
Billy answered her grin with one of his own, her kindness infectious, and he went in when she let him. He glanced around the room quickly, the first time he had been in JM and Shen’s room, before turning back to her. “I just have a good sense about those things? Maybe it’s another power making its way up.”
God, he hoped not. “How are you?”
"Good," she said, all earnestness. "Jean-Paul coming to me took a weight off--and I have Kurt to thank for it, did I tell you?"
“You did not tell me that.” Perfect. She was bringing Kurt up all by herself, which meant it wouldn’t be such a crazy random thing for him to bring up her reaction. “What did he do that made JP come find you?”
“He talked to him,” Jeanne-Marie replied with a shrug. “I don’t know what he said but it worked.
“I was actually going to hunt Kurt down to thank him later, but, ugh, homework.” She bounced down on her bed.
“Ah, that was very sweet of him.” Billy replied, doing his best not to let his smile turn into an all-out pleased grin. He snagged her computer chair and sat down in it, turning to face her. “So, since you brought up Kurt, can I ask you something?”
Jeanne-Marie flushed a little, but went to her electric kettle to try and distract herself. She'd been so stupid during that talk with Tommy and Billy... but it had been the thing that'd drawn her crush on Kurt to her attention, and so she was grateful for it. "Yes, actually, I wanted to ask you something too. You go first."
“You did?” He questioned and tilted his head a little to the side. “Now I want to know, but I’ll go first.”
He made sure she was facing him before asking. “Do you like Kurt?”
Still pink, Jeanne-Marie nodded. "And I didn't know it before you said that. It just hit me. I felt so ridiculous!"
“Why ridiculous?” Billy asked, head tilted to the side. “Kurt is a fantastic guy, it’s no wonder you would like him.”
Billy smiled a little. “And I think maybe you should go for him.”
Jeanne-Marie grabbed Billy's hand. "That's what I was going to ask you! I know you like Teddy, but I wasn't sure if maybe you still had some feelings for Kurt, or..."
Billy smiled at her grabbing his hand and held it, trying to hold himself back from just jumping on the chance to get this to work. “Kurt is really great. Good kisser, really nice to look at and too sweet for this earth, but I don’t think he’s right for me. Teddy, on the other hand. Teddy is right for me.”
He raised his eyebrows as looked her in the eye, trying to get that message across.
She giggled and squeezed his hand. "Illyana told me my suspicions were correct," she admitted. Then she went a little more serious. "But it doesn't mean--If you still have feelings, or think it would be awkward..."
“Oh my god. Jeanne-Marie, listen to me, I am actively sitting here in your room telling you that you should go for it.” He grinned a little and tugged lightly on her hand. “I wouldn’t be doing this if I wasn’t a hundred percent sure about it.”
Also, Kurt deserved someone as sweet and wonderful as Jeanne-Marie, dodging the traffic wreck that was Billy was God’s divine intervention for the blue boy.
She laughed and threw her arms around him. "I'm sorry I was so strange about it at first! I really didn't know myself at all!"
“It’s okay.” He laughed and hugged her back. “Emotions and feelings are tricky bastards. They like to be super inconvenient and crop up when you don’t want them.”
After a long moment of squeezing him, Jeanne-Marie leaned back, hands on his shoulders. "So, tell me about Teddy! Obviously, you talked it out and he felt the same, but I need details."
Billy blinked a little when suddenly they were talking about Teddy and he raised an eyebrow, fixing her with a look. “So, What? We are done talking about that now? You have a crush on a really great guy and....?”
She giggled. "Well, there's nothing to tell--yet! But with you and Teddy..." She waggled her eyebrows as best she could, trying to look suggestive.
Billy flushed at her bad eyebrow wiggling and tried not to laugh. “Um, okay. I’m not going that far into detail, but...yeah. It’s been nice. Okay, not nice. Fantastic. He’s amazing.”
"I really like him!" She clapped her hands together, dropping the suggestive act now. "I mean, I don't know him that well, but he seems so sweet. I was so surprised that things went--ah, badly, at first. But I knew you two would salvage it. I had a good feeling.
"So... I know he's fantastic but... the kissing?"
Billy’s face went about the shade of a fire truck when she asked that, and he had about a moment of gaping before trying to answer her question. “Ah, um. He kisses...” He trailed off as he thought about it. The way Teddy sometimes hummed against his lips if he was pleased or how he was really good at making Billy feel weak with just a press of his tongue. “He’s....really good. I mean, I don’t know if it’s cause I have little experience, but...yeah.”
She laughed. "I know, but I think when it's good you must know it's good, yes? That's so sweet!" She even clapped her hands together. "Illyana told me you two were sickeningly sweet!"
“Yana said that?” Billy questioned a little shocked. Last, he had really talked to Yana about Teddy he had gotten the impression Teddy wasn’t really Yana’s cup of sugar. “Well, we try not to be too much in everyone’s face about it. Teddy is new to the whole being out thing, so we are taking it slow on the PDA.”
Jeanne-Marie shrugged one shoulder, still grinning. "I don't know why she said it, only that she did. Did she tell you something different?"
“Erm...I don’t think she dislikes him, but I don’t think she particularly likes him? She just wasn’t too pleased with him about our fight.” Billy cringed remembering all of that, but then smiled a little. “I’m glad if she thinks we are sweet though. I’d hate for them to not like each other.”
Jeanne-Marie made a face at that. "I think Jean-Paul is still annoyed at Kurt for the talking-to he gave him, to get him to speak to me again. I understand. At least Shen loves him!"
Billy smiled at that. “Shen loves Kurt or Teddy? But I bet she loves both cause I can’t see Shen disliking anyone really unless you have her a good reason. Also, super cool move on Kurt’s part with JP by the way.”
"Kurt," she clarified. "I don't know if she loves Teddy, but how could she not? Anyhow, yes, Jean-Paul is not so appreciative of Kurt's coolness, but he doesn't like anyone telling him what he should be doing, even if they're nice about it."
Billy gave a shrug. “He’ll get over it. He has to, I mean, it helped you two sort things out so how could he not see it as a good thing that Kurt did.”
"That's what I say," she agreed. "Personally, I think he's just clinging to it to be stubborn. He had to be the one to come to me, so he needs something."
“I get that.” Billy smiled a little, knowing how he was with his younger brothers and hating being called out on being wrong. “It sucks to have to be the one to bow your head, but if you love someone you do it, even if it sucks.”
Jeanne-Marie smiled slightly, hearing that. So sweet. "Yes. I think that was the idea, at the end of the day. And I know we're both better for it. But--you know how hard it is, when you didn't grow up together but are suddenly twins."
Billy couldn’t help but crack a grin at that and shook his head. “No, I get it. Figuring out Tommy is like walking through a mine field and it doesn’t help that if he gets snippy with me I have to get snippy back.”
She sighed. "Same. We both have a temper. And are very defensive. It really is like a mine field."
“Sucks when you basically are fighting yourself in another body, huh?” Billy sighed, then leaned forward to tuck a piece of her hair behind her ear and grinned. “But let’s not dwell on that. Let’s think about happier things, like sweet blue guys, hot blond shapeshifters and Indian food.”
Jeanne-Marie grabbed for Billy's arm. "It's been so long since we had Indian food!"
“Too long.” Billy agreed and quickly checked his phone. “Feel like grabbing some? I’m pretty sure I can get us there and back before three unless you have other plans.”
"I thought you'd never ask. Let me grab my wallet!"
Billy stood outside Jeanne-Marie’s door and hoped she was inside as he reached out to knock twice.
