Jubilee and Laura take off to celebrate Jubilee's birthday
"Hey Laura, ready to go?" Jubilee called through Laura's door, only belatedly remembering to knock.
As birthdays went, this one was probably going to be pretty low key, but Jubes was actually cool with that. Birthdays mostly still made her think of her parents, and while most of the memories were good, it'd stil bum her out. Being bummed on your own birthday being decidedly not cool, and she wasn't going there. So, fairly quiet day, and she really wasn't advertising, no matter how awesome it was to no longer be 13.
Fairly quiet being the key word. Doing nothing would suck and give her too much time to think. A movie seemed like a good compromise, and Stevie'd promised a ride there if they could be ready before she was.
“I am.” Laura replied, tying her sneakers up tight and pulling down on the hem of her large sweatshirt just to make sure. “You said we would be seeing a film correct? I wanted to make sure I was dressed appropriately for your birthday activities.”
She had not made anything for Jubilee’s birthday and she felt s little bad for it, but she had no way of knowing until the girl had asked to to come with her. “Happy Birthday, Jubliee. Shall I sing to you now or after we watch the film?”
"Dude, you can totally skip the singing," Jubilee assured her. She was wearing her yellow winter coat, with gloves red gloves and a matching hat. "I just want to hang out, watch a movie, get some ice cream at the mall with like, a zillion toppings on it. Total non-birthday-ish birthday." She grinned. "With bonus cake, because seriously, we need to get back in time to grab some of Gar's. Even non-birthdays need cake."
“Non-Birthday-ish birthday.” Laura tried to figure out what that exactly meant since she had no idea what people really did on their birthdays, but she would let Jubliee take the lead. She gave Jubliee a nod to show she was ready to do whatever it was the small girl wanted. “Though I believe you might have to go less than a zillion toppings. They will not fit in the cup otherwise.”
"So we get a really big cup?" Jubilee suggested, then waved that aside. "Anyway, you're right, not a zillion - just a figure of speech. But like, all the ones I want. And you want, because gorging out on ice cream is totally a two person thing. Grab your coat, though, because we're so going to miss the next showing if we don't get down to the car like, now, because I think Stevie maybe really meant it when she said if we weren't down there we were gonna have to take the bus."
“Ah.” Laura had forgotten her coat, so she quickly went to get it so she would not make them late for Jubliee’s non-Birthday plans. She followed behind the other girl, actually a little excited to be seeing her first film in an actual theater, not watching on a screen or a laptop. “I did not tell you, but I am thankful you chose me to celebrate your birthday with. At least the first half, it means a great deal to me.”
"Dude, why wouldn't I? We're buds, right?" Jubilee linked her arm through Laura's and grinned. "Besides, we're gonna have so much fun. And forget this first half stuff; we can totally hit Gar's party together after. Unless you've got other plans," she amended, realizing that might be what Laura'd meant, "which is totally cool, too."
“I do not, no.” Laura shook her head, looking down at their linked arms for a second before deciding that she liked it. “I would like to go with you. I seem to be less awkward when I am with others.”
"Why awkward? You seem fine to me." Yeah, granted, Laura was sometimes a little odd, but whatever. Everyone was odd sometimes, right?
She did not show it on her face, but the fact that Jubliee did not find he awkward made her happy and Laura tightened her hold on Jubliee’s arm. “Let is hurry. We do not want Miss. Hunter to get upset.”
